Newsome told BuzzFeed News he started making the hats to cheer up a friend’s son who had lost his own pet toad “because all kids would laugh at a toad with a hat.”

“He asked me if Mr. Toad was still coming to visit me every night, so to make him feel better I sent him a photo to show that Mr. Toad was alive and well,” Newsome said.

(...full disclosure: I had a toad visit my back porch at night for a few summers- liked (his) back scratched, I think. It was chill, like this little beauty. No hats, though.
