Keith Ellison Tells Disappointed Supporters To Buck Up

Progressives have faced tougher challenges, the new deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee said.

“You’re interviewing me in Selma, Alabama,” Ellison said. “These people paid a price far superior to any price we’re paying right now. I mean these people were shot, killed, murdered, bombed ― you name it, it happened. It never stopped them from fighting.”

“So don’t tell me because you’re frustrated about what happened in my DNC race or Bernie’s race or anybody else’s race that you gonna throw your hands up,” he added. “That’s a bunch of crap right there. Buck up!”

Does it make you feel superior to insult Democrats and their party? How'd that work out last election?

The status quo should remain as it is? It seems to me unity should be based on finding common ground, and not "my way or the highway". Finding common ground may include a significant shift in the DNC's positions and policies.

... and when a national party moves too close toward the fringy edges, it risks LOSING more voters than it gains from those nether regions of the party extremists and purists.

So, I'll happily stand by my "no" response. That type is never satisfied. Nothing is ever enough. Placating them in the hopes of getting a mere handful of voters risks losing entire swaths of voters.

The trade-off isn't worth it. The fringe can adapt and accept reality, or just keep whining, or find someplace more to their liking like the Greens and Jill Stein. (That's what Susan Sarandon did.)

PS: Fuck Susan Sarandon.

Perhaps. However, it's safe to say that when you move further away from the center of the political spectrum bell curve (either left OR right) the number of available voters diminishes.

Elections are won in the middle, not the edges, not the fringes, not the low sides of the bell curve. You guys can flatter yourselves all you want and exaggerate your importance or numbers, but it won't change the facts. At best the only "power" the fringe has is as a spoiler in very close elections. And in those cases, we see the immaturity and vanity of people like Sarandon who'd rather "make a statement" instead of defeating the GOP candidate.

Lunatic fringe idiots like Susan Sarandon are sick in the head. People who vote emotionally, rather than strategically, are at a disadvantage and are more likely to lose (as we've often seen.)

PS: Fuck Susan Sarandon. Susan Sarandon can *** ** **** and **** ** **** or **** ** ***** while ***** * ***** ****.

Sanders sponsored delegates have taken over the party structure in California and several other states.

What is considered "centrist" currently in economic terms is what historically had been considered mainstream conservative for decades, until Dems started moving to the right in the 80's, thinking that's where mainstream America was politically, when in reality, most Americans, when asked about specific policy positions, align with traditional FDR/progressive values. Just because the media and the party leaders move the goalposts doesn't mean the general public has changed (again, speaking economically; social values is a whole other conversation)

Buying in to the neoliberal corporate agenda/narrative won't win more elections, but continue to ensure the election right wing "fringe" candidates

It doesn't mean one shouldn't stand up for the values you believe in, it just means don't let disappointment over the DNC election interfere with a unified fight against Trump.

A unified fight against Trump doesn't require one group to go along with the policy demands of another group.

P.S. I think Susan Sarandon is doing a great job playing Bette Davis in the miniseries "Feud". Interestingly, bitter rivals Davis and Joan Crawford were able to come together despite their differences and make what was probably the last great film either actress made, "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?"

Last year's Presidential Election is over and the primary has been over even longer and we all need to unite right now to stop Trumpublicans from ruining the country. Time to put petty grievances aside and concentrate our fire on Trumpublicans. Ellison gets this.
