I know I was surprised to hear there are NO LAWS that prevent insurance from being sold across State Lines, and never were! I guess I fell for the "say it often enough and people will believe it" tactic, and I swore I would never be scammed by such a thing.

the Repubs want a way to do an end-around to the State Insurance Commissioners. Currently, every state has its own commissioner, whose office is charged with making sure the Ins companies follow state regulations. The real goal is to get around that, which would naturally start a "race to the bottom" rush where Ins cos would set up their "main office" in the least restrictive state and be able to sell without penalty or any additional regulation to all other states.
