(14,337 posts)We are driving up to NY at 3 AM, and staying overnight in St. Augustine. Tomorrow it will be 97 in St. Augustine, 98 on Long Island, NY, AND 89 in Naples, Florida. What is wrong with this picture?
Also, crazy that is it hotter where you are in Tnn. than in SW Florida.

(23,720 posts)but we had real good rain just a couple of weeks ago here in Waterford. I'm thinking it was two week ago Saturday cause my sister's SO passed away and his service was on Saturday, I remember it was raining.

(2,682 posts)68 and overcast with rain predicted for the weekend. Wonder what that will do to the sand castle competition at Ocean Shores this weekend. I'll be driving over there tomorrow. An umbrella lives in the bottom of my purse so I'm never caught without one. I hope that all of you in the extreme heat take care of yourselves -- don't over do it and please, drink plenty of water.

(17,528 posts)I have a friend who lives there and every time I look... it's raining.
HeiressofBickworth
(2,682 posts)Actually, is one of our better-kept secrets. It just SEEMS that we have rain all the time, but we don't really. In annual rainfall, we have less than a lot of other places, but we have a little lots of times rather than one or two huge down-pours. We have enough to keep the place pretty green and keep the pollens down in the spring and summer.
Back in the day, we had a local newspaper columnist, Emmett Watson (google him -- he was an interesting character), who developed the idea of "Lesser Seattle". It was he who suggested that we keep secret the real story of rain in this area in order to KBO (Keep the Bastards Out)(his term) and keep the Seattle area from over-developing. It didn't work very well.
Auntie Bush
(17,528 posts)My friend said the same thing...but I didn't believe him. I think you convinced me...maybe....................
HeiressofBickworth
(2,682 posts)and came up with a website www.whatIfoundout.com that said:
"Seattle doesnt really get that much rain compared to most U.S. cities. In fact, Seattle ranks 44th among major U.S. cities in average annual rainfall, getting approximately 38 inches annually. Cities that get more rainfall than Seattle include such as Houston Texas (48 inches), New Orleans (60 inches), Mobile AL (65 inches), Memphis (52 inches), Nashville (48 inches), and pretty much every major city on the eastern seaboard, such as New York (43 inches), Philadelphia (41 inches), Miami (58 inches), and Boston (44 inches)."
Shhhhhh -- it's a secret!

It will be be hot this weekend, but since summer will hopefully be a whole month shorter than usual, I can probably make it.
