the president is illiterate.

I'm watching Lawrence O'Donnell and he's discussing the wiretapping claims.

Trump is genuinely illiterate.

It's clearly not an act.

He read these articles :https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/12/us/politics/nsa-gets-more-latitude-to-share-intercepted-communications.html?platform=hootsuite&_r=0

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/19/us/politics/trump-russia-associates-investigation.html?_r=0

And he heard a question Bret Baier posed to Paul Ryan about rumors concerning a FISA warrant which may have picked up contacts in the Trump campaign thus expanded to cover Trump officials, to which Paul Ryan answered a negative - he knew of no such information and he knew of no one in Congress aware of such information, there's no evidence to that claim.

Yet Trump believed Bret's question and heard "Obama Tapped my phone"

This man is a fucking idiot. He's not just vile, and disgusting, he's a fucking idiot.

I'm pretty sure I saw this on the new Gawker website about 5 or 6 months ago.
I'll post the link here if I can find it.

People who are special reading teachers / counselors have said that Trump shows the signs of being dyslexic.
It's not the same as being illiterate, but it's definitely a problem of underachievers.

With a lot of work and good teachers, a person with dyslexia can overcome the problem, but most people don't bother.
So the result is they have trouble reading their entire lives. In the case of the Cheeto, he's so rich that he
pays other people to do his reading for him. They just tell him how smart he is because it's their job to do that.

But he is someone who never reads.

And since he never reads, and especially since he never reads fiction, he has zero way of identifying with anyone but himself. I will challenge all of you to consider this: if you never read anything outside your own limited experience, how can you possibly understand others?

All of us, no matter how well read or travelled, live within a bubble. The bubble may be larger or smaller, depending on various circumstances, but it is still a bubble. And yet we still strive to understand the other.

THAT (striving to understanding the other) is the essence of liberalism/progressivism. Without that striving we are lost in our bubble. It might be a right-wing bubble, it might be a left wing bubble, but it is still a bubble.

Donald Trump, like all of us is in a bubble. But unlike many of us (especially those of us at DU) has no clue he's in a bubble. And even if he learns that, he won't give a flying fuck. Because he thinks his view of the world is valid, is the only one that matters, and he absolutely must impose it upon all of us.

Here's the kicker. I'm speaking as someone who reads a lot, both fiction and non fiction. I can honestly say a read a far greater variety in both fiction and non fiction than anyone else I know. Because I read both, and widely in both, I have an appreciation of lots of stuff. As an aside, I'm currently reading Where Nobody Knows Your Name by John Feinstein, about minor league baseball. Absolutely fascinating. I'm not much of a baseball fan, and I have literally never heard of any of the players I've so far encountered (143 pages in). but I'm mesmerized because of what I'm learning about human nature and various details of life in baseball's minor leagues.

My point is, that by reading lots of different things, I'm opening myself to all sorts of different ideas. Someone who never reads never encounters different ideas. And so, I submit, is true of Donald Trump. He doesn't read. He never encounters anything outside his narrow world. And that makes him a terrible businessman, an incompetent human being, and a total disasters as a President.

very well at all, that when it was his turn to say a line, he'd pause like he was trying to sound it out and he'd emphasize the wrong words, as if each time was a cold reading.

Given that he insists his briefings have no more than 9 bullet points and be only one page (no matter the complexity or gravity of the subject), we can see that he finds reading complete sentences to be taxing, even onerous.

Also, he does such a fucking weird "ooh" kissy-thing with his lips after almost every single word - forming his lips like he's going to whistle. That has to be some type of tic. I don't think it's Queens or NY thing.

NOBODY ELSE does that!!! NOBODY! It's like he never learned how to form his lips around sounds properly. It is disgusting! It's repugnant. It bugs the hell out of me, and I don't really care anymore if that sounds mean. He looks like an bloomin' idiot when he does that ooh thing.

I can't think of any tic Obama had that bothered me. I found it assuring when he would take a pause to think about the phrasing he wanted to use. He is a lovely man.

said the same thing.

Trump can't follow a script because he won't even read the cue cards.

He just makes everything up as he goes along, and each week they had hours of videotape that couldn't be used because he messed up the takes. It all had to be edited out, including many, many racist and sexist things he said right on camera.

Sooner or later, all the outtakes of him saying these awful things are going to hit the internet. I keep waiting for somebody to leak them. They should have been leaked during the campaign, and he would have been DONE!

Apparently some of the top ranking Republicans know about these videotapes, and they've been scared they would come out and embarrass the GOP. But we know now for sure, NOTHING about Trump can ever embarrass them.

Too late for that.

There's basic literacy - where you can read basic prose, understand simple instructions, or follow short instructions. Basic literacy skills also involve the ability to solve simple math problems. We're talking fifth grade level here.

More advanced literacy skills would show an ability to read longer prose texts, to understand metaphors, to grasp conditionals and complex ideas. This comes with practice and interest in expanding literacy skills - the President is not interested in either of those things and it shows.

There are levels to literacy that goes beyond just knowing how to read or write, that's my point - it's the point of my op. He read two articles and saw an interview and drew an inane conclusion because he doesn't understand simple shit. Not the first time either.

And it's not just me who's noticed problems regarding Trump in this area. He does speak and sound like he dropped out of school around fifth grade.

His intelligence level is probably average at best, and he displays an astonishing level of ignorance on any issue not involving real estate. Worse yet, he doesn't recognize that he lacks fundamental knowledge and he has no desire to educate himself about things. No president can know everything about every issue, but most of them surround themselves with knowledgeable people and then actually listen to what they have to say. Trump has no intellectual curiosity. He's a lazy con artist.

Nobody knew being president could be so complicated. His arrogance is mind blowing. He thought he could just waltz into office and magically fix complex issues that many, intelligent and competent people have worked on for years. And it's all because he thinks he's the smartest guy in the world.
