... that the legislature has been disrespected (can't remember exact words) in its role of oversight of the executive by not getting a response from Trump or the DOJ?
I've been waiting and waiting for the legislative and judicial branches to rise up and say, "Hey!!! This isn't a dictatorship!!!! We're 3 EQUAL branches of government."
I hope he gets more and more irritated.

(24,437 posts)that his Presidency was so massively disrespected, especially by Grassley right there towards the end of his last term and SCOTUS appointment.

(13,783 posts)... may turn on Trump? How does this translate to me defending Grassley's prior behavior?
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,437 posts)Just frustrated with Grassley acting all sanctimonious and appalled at how Trump is acting towards Congress when he was IMHO abusing his power to block President Obama from filling Scalia's seat on SCOTUS.
As for him turning on Trump, I'll believe it when I see it..............

(9,197 posts)and has had the same MO for years. Make headlines with a statement that seems at odds with his party's position, and then fall in line when it's time to vote.
He may be "irritated" now, but he won't do anything to rock the Republican boat.

(9,197 posts)a duck on the steps of the Capital on national TV and he'd win Iowa in landslide. And the next time he runs he'll be 89.
Thirty years ago he was somewhat of a moderate with a reputation (not wholly unearned) as an even handed fiscal watchdog. That reputation remains, despite the fact that he has long been a partisan hack.

(49,998 posts)Frankly, I'm surprised he's doing this.
Unfortunately he didn't buck his party last year regarding Obama's SCOTUS nominee.

(9,197 posts)He makes noises like he's going to buck the party. Then, after he's gotten favorable press coverage back home, he falls right into line like the hack he is.

(18,652 posts)Obviously, when an investigator is investigating anything, he must be close-mouthed. For all we know, Comey could be investigating Grassley along with other Rs in Congress. Best not to let the cat out of the bag until the right moment arrives.
Give Comey a break. He may end up being a hero in the whole thing
