So this is what a Christian budget looks like? Fuck food, health care, the environment and basic

common decency. We need more bullets, aircraft carriers and nukes. No need for state dept people if your goal is to just nuke anyone you disagree with. Sounds real Jesusy to me.

I think that we should start asking people to explain their reasoning. Ask politely. Say that you're really interested to hear how Trump's budget furthers Jesus's teachings.

their cause and rob of life those who rob them.

Proverbs 22:22-23

If these bozos really believe in the literal Bible their collective asses are up shit creek without the paddle!

One more to close the deal on the forfeiture of their immortal soul.

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Many, if not most, are quite the opposite.

We need to recognize them for the monsters that they are and stop believing their own PR.

When did right-wing zealots get to claim Christianity? That's what I want to know. It's no more valid than ISIS claiming Islam.

Currently, they won't be taking over the White House. They won't be installing Sharia Law.

But, the whole Southern Baptist Church -- created to make slavery seem godly -- seems to want theocracy and it IS within THEIR reach.

I know there are legitimate believers in the Bible who aren't part of this problem. Sorry to offend with such a broad brush.

But this IS a real threat to our nation. It ID's itself as Christianity. It needs to be opposed.

Use of such a broad brush is wildly inaccurate. Most mainstream Protestant denominations are liberal, and there are many liberal Catholics as well.

My Episcopal church welcomes everyone, marries same sex couples, had gay priests. Extremely inclusive.

and there is no danger of the Southern Baptist Convention taking over the US. They have no such power. The evangelical right is not unified, and their power has actually been waning over the past decade or so.

and here is some data for you:

"When did right-wing zealots get to claim Christianity?"

It gets to the heart of our current exchange because I trashed Christianity based on the RW bunch.

I do know fine people who believe and take the love-your-neighbor-as-yourself, go-the-extra-mile approach.

I also have a family full of warm smiles who bring great dishes to Thanksgiving dinner but always support the right-wing and worship capitalism ("no one can serve both God and money&quot .

Back to the point: The zealots have been inundating Congress, the press, the airwaves ... all claiming the mantle.

It's not really fair to make the real followers of Jesus fight just to keep the name, but if they don't then the other side gets it.

As individuals, there are many fine Christians (again, sorry to lump everyone together), but as a group 'Christians' pose a real threat to democracy, individual rights, and the basic human decency to look after one another.

Think of another name we can all use for them, and I'll be the first to adopt it.

... it's not just individuals who represent the mainstream of Christianity in this country. Catholics and main line Protestants (i.e., not evangelical fundamentalists) are not, for the most part, right wingers. There are Episcopalians and Lutherans and Methodists and..... these are groups, not individuals.

As individuals, there are many fine Christians (again, sorry to lump everyone together), but as a group 'Christians' pose a real threat to democracy, individual rights, and the basic human decency to look after one another.

Still, thanks for your thoughtful response.

But seem to not seem any "separation of church and state" or that this country isn't founded on the Christian faith.

Seems like we want a separation of *their* church from *our* state. As long as that's done, hey, let them be merged.
