And he's at it again... taking it to our REAL enemy instead of eating our own.
His charm and demeanor is one of his best assets. Rather than being one of those perpetually-scolding finger-wagging scowling aggressive types... Al Franken's smile helps to put people at ease and they don't feel intimidated by him.
That's part of who he is, it's HONEST and GENUINE and he doesn't rely on abrupt bluster as a way to cover up or distract. When Al Franken smiles, you know it's sincere! (Personally, I get so sick of politicians who have that posed, fake, forced and "plastic" smile... it looks so unnatural and phony... like a mask!) Franken is a natural! You can tell it's from the heart!
He's never been one to make it about himself, or to engage in personal grandstanding. His goal is to get to the truth, and to makes people's lives better. His warmth and honesty (I feel, and I hope) are helping to change the tone in the Senate AMONG AND BETWEEN DEMOCRATS.
He'll help to FIND COMMON GROUND (not drive wedges) and he'll help to UNIFY our party (not do things that divide us internally).
I like that he's willing to compromise and make SOME progress rather than being unwilling to compromise on anything and make NO progress at all. He's the Real Deal in my opinion.
He is a Democrat that makes me PROUD to be a DEMOCRAT!! (Minnesota has a lot to be proud of, too!)

But in Al Franken's suite of offices in the Hart Senate Office Building, the man still known best as one of the early stars of Saturday Night Live was going through an intense rehearsal with four aides.
How much, Franken wanted to know, are the Chinese spending on clean technology research? Where do things stand on the University of Minnesota's study of torrefaction, a roasting process that produces better fuel for biomass energy production? And might there be a chance to ask a question about one of his favorite causes, loan guarantees for Native American reservations?
"I just want to keep bringing it up, so they keep hearing it," Franken said, with a trace of a sigh.
Everyone is hearing a lot more from Minnesota's junior senator these days.

(42,862 posts)... with just a look, or a glance... he can cut his eyes, or cock his head to one side and he's able to say so many things without uttering a single word.
"Are you shitting me?"
"Do you expect us to believe that load of manure?"
"Thanks for your unexpected honesty."
"Try to weasel out of that, I dare you."
"I already know the answer to the question I'm asking... so you'd better tell the truth."
