Unless there's proof that there was a larger crime than lying and defamation, a custodial sentence would not be appropriate, IMO.

Defamation itself is a civil matter, so if President Obama wants to sue his golden ass I'm more than happy. But honestly I don't think he'd be that interested. Besides, I don't think Trump's efforts to ruin President Obama's reputation have succeeded. If anything, they've backfired.
