My conclusion is that the entire Fast and Furious madness has been manufactured by some folks close to both the NRA and the ReTHUGs who are making a bag of money selling AK47s to Mexican Cartels and see that as a 2nd Amendment right. Their right to trade in lethal weapons that are killing people supercedes everything else.
In other words ReTHUGs actually believe that American 2nd Amendment rights apply overseas.

(27,461 posts)I'll be sure to watch the video when it's online. I've been trying to make sense of the story and having a really hard time. Rachel helped a lot but there's something missing. Maybe Chris can help...

(102,411 posts)The NRA of my father's generation has gone the way of a very rogue organization... That they may still do some "good" in terms of advocating safety/training programs, hardly justifies what else they have become.

(16,254 posts)what do you have?
A very dangerous concoction.
None of these organizations are like they were intended to be because they've been tainted by the likes of the Kochs and their ilk. The old-order Republicans should be ashamed they allowed this to happen.
The 2012 election scares the bejeebers out of me.

why the fuck didn't the democrats or attorney general clarify the story. Tell the congressional panel what the fortune article said and all this nonsense would have ended. But no, they continue with the charade and then people wonder why people believe the current narrative about fast and furious.

(1,688 posts)everything written in the fortune article but somehow decided to withhold the truth and choose instead to take a beating with false information about fast and furious.
Either way, Holder is spineless or not fit for the job ad should do the right thing and step down.

(31,706 posts)My cable is out today...so I can't see the show but have just finished the Fortune magazine article that all but blows the lid off the scam that's going on here.
The political dog and pony show is being orchestrated by the NRA. They're using it to amp up fear from their members so they throw a lot of money around this year...keeping up with the Rovers and Kochs. It also to shakedown candidates by creating a phony issue that shows how much they "love" the Second Ammendment and to kow tow to the NRA. The fact they said they were "scoring" this is no different than Grover's pledge bullshit. It's all a shakedown as candidates fear being on the receiving end of a bad NRA rating and subsequent negative ads.
Gun runners didn't need the ATF to get high powered rifles and other weapons. The lax laws in states like Arizona all but invite straw buyers to run wild and the regressive "war on drugs" keeps the cartels flush with cash that goes to buy even more weapons. Meanwhile the DEA is busting pot farms in NoCal that only drives up the need from south of the border.

(111,110 posts)..and it is shocking to me that 17 Democrats are more fearful of the NRA than they are of the truth.

(31,706 posts)Every wave of this type of hysteria drives up gun and ammo sales as well as a nice uptick in memberships and "contributions". You'd figure after all the "they're gonna take your guns away" dogwhistles they'd have enough guns and thrown away enough money, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Truth is a commodity to be sold like speech these days...
