Nunes, behind closed doors, apologized to the Intel Committee

I am getting a leg tingle over all this. How soon until he steps down? He KNOWS he fucked up and he knows even some in his own party want him gone. Can he withstand the pressure? Is the kid with the failing finger in the hole in the dike?

This ain't over.

By a long shot!

How soon until we hear from Schiff? The only statement this far was from Jacki Speier, at about 10.45 EDT.

There are probably many other news sources. This is big.

Common etiquette is to post links to significant breaking news.

I don't have cable so cannot "watch" it on TV. I have to rely on the internet to stay current.

Step down, resign, head back to the Azores, or stay & get frog marched to Guantanamo as a enemy of the state with the rest of the Putin publican traitors.

in the Azores and wait for either of the two daily flights to the island to run you over...

because you voted to keep this bullshit base and airstrip open at a cost of millions to billions over the years just so you can be a hero to the relatives you left behind in the Azores.

Traitor.

I hope against hope, that his apology will not leave him off the hook.

MSNBC showed Jackie Speier's comments after the closed door meeting. She said that the committee would be considering if Nunes can continue to lead the committee or words to that effect. I got the impression that consideration is a bi-partisan thing. No wonder Nunes looked pretty contrite when he spoke this morning.

it would be up to the committee to recommend to the Speaker to have him removed from his chairmanship.

Still going to need a couple of republicans to recommend his removal.

12. J Castro was interviewed

and asked if Nunes should continue as chairman. Castro said there were a lot worse Rs who could be picked to replace him and Nunes had been working in a bi-partisan manner before yesterday.

Last night Lawrence O'Donnell went through Nunes' political career and essentially said he's always kind of cozied up to the powers that be in Congress. Based on that report, I lean toward thinking Nunes running to Ryan, then Trump was just a spur of the moment thing trying to curry favor rather than something more nefarious.

I think Nunes was beat about the head and shoulders by his committee members this morning and probably won't do something like that again.

This is just more of the philosophy that goes like this - Better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.

He's proved himself to to be unworthy of leading the committee. He deserves the humiliation of stepping down.

I don't think Nunes did the GOP or Trump any favors and probably made things worse for them. Do you think Trey Gowdy or Peter King would be an improvement as chairman?

Stepping down right now would be for the best.

As for Gowdy, he's got some stink on him right now. Peter King? Oh, please - appoint him today! I'd love to watch him ruin his long career over Trump's dirty dealing. I'm not so sure that King would be willing to fall on a sword for Trump. But if he does than it's bye, bye Pete.

Being on the transition team tells me that he's too close to the administration to do anything else.

Trump doesn't have respect for the intel community. So I doubt he has any respect for the Intel Committee. Nunes is Trump's toady on the committee. I don't believe he has or will do anything on his own.

But then, that's how a person of honor and integrity would handle this colossal clusterfuck, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that Rep. Nunes doesn't know what the right thing is.

I really doubt anything is going to happen to Nunes.

Because let's think about this:

1) He was NEVER asked to recuse despite his connections to the Trump transition team AND the fact that recusal is a recurring theme thanks to Jeff Sessions. BUT, not one person brought it up on EITHER side - D or Rs Why is that?

2) I forgot this but in Jan - the Rs were in a hurry to gut the Ethics Oversight. (http://www.npr.org/2017/01/03/508043376/after-trump-tweets-criticism-house-gop-drops-weakening-of-house-ethics-office)

I bet it's pretty clear that even if they aren't gutted, they probably have limited real action. So he might have gotten a slap on the wrist, in the future, at best. So why not pull a presser stunt like he did yesterday?
