(3,847 posts)It was a revelation to Americans that realized everything FDR said was true. He raised America to the true shining city on the hill. He and Eleanor had the pulse of Americans and knew what to do and how to do it. I have wondered what else he would have accomplished if he had not died.
Truman was also a true transformative president, now we have let all they did FOR US is being ripped away and we have allowed it. And by "we" I mean the Congress and legislators that have gotten fat and happy from their apathy for Americans.
I believe HRC could have been FDR II rather than an extension of Bill. Sometimes she needed to be pushed into the right policy, but she did it. She did come to know what "we the people" actually wanted and meant, now ... I don't know, I really don't. How do we get back to a country that was a leader and generous?

(31,261 posts)trickle down. The Social Security Act largely excluded Black Americans due to how it was administered. Truman (mostly) and Eisenhower (significantly) brought pre JFK-Johnson rights to Black Americans. Why is it that people that use FDR to bash Democrats don't mention the realities of the unequal society that FDR did nothing to challenge (if the victims were non White)?
