Comey: FBI is 'not on anybody's side'

Comey: FBI is 'not on anybody's side'
By Mallory Shelbourne - 03/29/17 10:00 PM EDT

FBI Director James Comey on Wednesday reflected on the past year, which he said was easier than some might expect because the bureau "is not on anybody's side."

Speaking at a dinner for the nonprofit Intelligence and National Security Alliance, Comey said the last year “has been both difficult and easier than you might think.”

“What makes it easy is we’re not on anybody’s side, ever,” Comey said.

“We’re not considering whose ox will be gored by this action or that action, whose fortunes will be helped by this or that. We just don’t care and we can’t care.”

1. He's full of it. He knew the Oct. 28 letter would swing the election to trump

And he wrote the letter without having even seen the emails. Another day or two without notifying Chaffetz would have given him time to see that they were duplicates of emails already reviewed.

Not to be trusted.

9. I almost completely agree with you, but I would make one qualification.

I don't think it is the best choice of terminology to say that he "swung" the election to Trump. That implies that he turned a narrow win for Clinton into a narrow win for Trump.

What Comey did completely reshaped the race. The end result was dramatically altered from what it would otherwise have been.

Had it not been for Comey HRC might have won by 8-10 points. Worst case scenario would have been a 6 point Clinton win, with 333 Electoral Votes.

The media has been lying about this since election day, offering completely bogus explanations for the result, stated as if they are fact, no less.

10. Your point is well taken. Hillary was winning going away. Comey's stunt gave us trump.

And him being a repug, he dumped trump in the country's lap.

He's no fool. He knew what the letter would do.

Now he's acting as if he had no dog in the fight.

He's going to have to live his life with how trump screws up the country and how trump ushered the Russians into our electoral process.

3. He is so full of himself. And drunk with power.

I hope we get a special prosecutor and I hope he gets fired.

He is a Republican through and through and he is always on that team. Worst mistake of Obama's nearly-stellar tenure.

8. Hands down. Obama was a great president but appointing Comey, in the hopes of being "post-partisan,"

was without a doubt his biggest mistake, by far.

And it was a huge one.

Either he is getting ready to lay the hammer on someone or he is going to indict someone for some low level crime or he's going to surprise a lot of people with his decision to prosecute?

Who knows?
