Liberal in a cornfield

Darkest red Indiana.

The vast majority of people surrounding me are not free thinkers. They're afraid of change. They are highly religious. Jesus rules and no amount of logic will change their god-fearing minds. They will LITERALLY GIVE UP THEIR LIVES for a savior they believe exists.

But their piousness is bullshit. They voted for a bully: a rude, loud, boorish, pussy grabbing mocker of the disabled. Their vote for trump was based on selfishness (what can he do for me) and a desire to stick it to you and I... the godless (or more specifically, Jesus-less) queer-lovin' libtards and all others who don't think, look and act like they do.

Racism is everywhere. If you're a brown man (US born, Guatemalan, whatever) standing on a street corner in my small town, you're a Mexican. If you're Indian and run the local gas station, you're a Muslim, rag-head, dot-head, etc. If you're black... people literally talk about it as if they sighted a UFO.

The sheer ignorance is fucking incredible. These people love and are proud of who they are and what they represent. It is a communal psychosis. Reasoning and logic won't change it. For these people - like any addict forced to change their behavior - it has to be very personal and hit very, very hard.

It is frustrating, and I do believe, as you, that ignorance must be countered by truth. The Wielding Truth Apr 2017 #3

.... I live in a blue state (Massachusetts) and even I see some of this crap around here from uneducated lowlives, though thankfully reason, common sense and decency vastly outweighs them. We've stripped them of most of their hateful, nasty political voice (which is why there is nothing more shrill and upset than a Massachusetts Republican; they literally do nothing but SHRIEK about liberals constantly. Oh, those horrible liberals, trying to ensure people are educated, insured, protected from homelessness, environmental depradations and hunger!).

I couldn't stomach living in a red state. Not ever. The only other states besides Massachusetts in which I could live would be California or Colorado.

Find a way to pack up and leave, because - no offense - for a northern state, Indiana is one of the shittiest of the shithole red states. I've been there too and I know what you mean.

But even though we're greatly outnumbered, cornfield liberals must stay and try to be agents of change.
