Joy Reid gives us a KISS (Keep it Simple, Stupid).

What should we do next?

Republicans rode total obstruction to total government control. Why? Because voters are polarized and partisan, and reward sim. politicians.

In fact the only voters who are not polarized and partisan are 1) independents, who are just slightly less so, and 2) apathetic non-voters.

Democrats for decades have tried moderation and bipartisanship to try and lure new voters/converts instead of driving more base turnout.

Well as it turns out there are no converts. There's winning by getting more of your people out, and losing by the other side doing so.

The only converts are self-converts who lose faith in their own party, and converts from "non-voter" to "voter."

I think there are voters worth trying to convince, and others that it's a waste of time. Warren DeMontague Apr 2017 #5

Instead of moving toward the "middle," we should be moving more to the left to energize the base and serve as a counterbalance to the extreme right-wing of the Republican party.

This will help us get a larger turnout and motivate the people who stayed home last election to get to the polls.

What's different today than in the 70s is rightwing brainwashing media like Fox, Limbaugh, Breitbart (along with the conservative Internet disinformation network from Newsmax to Infowars to IJR to RT).

Those media outlets control the information of, and therefore the opinions of, a third of American voters.

Democratic voters can be swayed because they can hear different opinions and consider them. Hardcore GOP voters are in an information bubble that Trump and Fox and the GOP control. Until that bubble is broken America is in big trouble.

Some of our beltway advice people have been trying to get our elected officials for 12 years or more, now, to go after "values voters" or, in this last cycle, "megachurch moms".

It's a waste of time. "megachurch moms" aren't a viable source of large #s of new votes for our party.

Know where there is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm and energy and support, particularly among young people, right now? Around the issue of marijuana legalization.

We need to go where the votes are.
