Taibbi: Putin Derangement Syndrome Arrives

So Michael Flynn, who was Donald Trump's national security adviser before he got busted talking out of school to Russia's ambassador, has reportedly offered to testify in exchange for immunity.

For seemingly the 100th time, social media is exploding. This is it! The big reveal!

Perhaps it will come off just the way people are expecting. Perhaps Flynn will get a deal, walk into the House or the Senate surrounded by a phalanx of lawyers, and unspool the whole sordid conspiracy.

He will explain that Donald Trump, compromised by ancient deals with Russian mobsters, and perhaps even blackmailed by an unspeakable KGB sex tape, made a secret deal. He'll say Trump agreed to downplay the obvious benefits of an armed proxy war in Ukraine with nuclear-armed Russia in exchange for Vladimir Putin's help in stealing the emails of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and John Podesta.

Thanks but no thanks on his comparison to Obama. We have good reasons to know Putin is garbage.

The Right in this country made up shit about a good and decent human being (Obama).

along with Glenn Greenwald, Susan Sarandon, and Tulsi Gabbard.

So much time bashing the free world, while turning a blind eye to real tyranny abroad (Russia/Jihad, etc....).

Putin loves Trump as he is a useful puppet.

In his core, Taibbi hates the free world. For the far left, the Soviet Union was there dream, just as Nazi Germany was the dream of the far right.

One more matter Mr. Taibbi, Anwar Al-Awlaki gave up his American citizenship. He chose to fight for Jihad.
He made that clear. President Obama was correct in placing him on the terrorist list. Al-Awlaki earned his fate.

black and white proof of Trump himself ordering the hacking will be scored as a win for Trump. Can you imagine what will happen when/if this fizzles out? For the rest of his term any criticism of Trump will be "fake news", nothing will stick. I'm firmly in the avoid hysteria camp.

if Trump implodes in spectacular fashion, The Times and the WaPo have been all over it, and no one is going to remember what Taibbi said about the thing.

But if it turns out to be a big nothingburger, he can lay claim to the skepticism prize.

Still, the story he weaves and connections he draws- in a piece about stories and connections!- are pretty fuckin' spurious. People have said silly things! People are seeing elaborate conspiracies, just like Glenn Beck did on his chalkboards!

Derp.

Okay, a couple things, Matt. One, saying this is could be a huge fucking story with the potential to bring down the Administration is not the exact same thing as imagining your neighbors were in on the alien plot with Elvis to kill JFK. There could be very serious, impeachable shit that went down, which would not require anything like a well-oiled conspiracy machine or some exquisitely planned labyrith of connections. It would not require Putin to have been mind-controlling millions of "BernieBros" or whatever someone at Salon happened to say.

In fact, what we've seen so far seems to indicate almost comical levels of ineptness. I don't think this was the Illuminati, more like the Keystone Cops.

Which makes it all the more believable. Especially since it's quite likely that team Trump, like almost everyone else, really believed they were going to lose. They may have said "fuck it", or not even really considered the consequences, because they figured why not, hail mary pass.

There's also the fact that Trump is not a person who is used to being told what to do, or what he's not allowed to do.

It doesn't need to make sense, or even have been a particularly good idea, to be impeachable. Nixon didn't need to bug the Watergate, either. He won that election by a landslide. I can see not believing he would do something so stupid, but he did.

And here's the other thing, the thing that gives me pause, and I'm sure it's the thing that gives a lot of DC journalists pause.

It's the fact that they're acting like they've got something to hide. They've been acting weird about this shit from the get-go.
