Email from Sen. Leahy of Vermont. He is no longer on the fence

I assume this was sent out as a mass email, but he said he will not be voting for Gorsuch for the Supreme Court, and while he hopes this will not move McTurtle to bring the nuclear option, he's taking the position regardless.

"I have often said that the Senate, at its best, can be the conscience of the Nation. I must now vote my conscience, both today and later this week. My conscience will not allow me to ratify the Majority Leader’s actions – not last year an--d not this year. I will not support advancing this nomination."--Patrick Leahy, D-VT

I don't know if this has been reported yet, so this is not getting posted in LBN (at least not by me).

Leahy, Sanders Oppose Gorsuch Nomination As Democrats Threaten To Filibuster
By BOB KINZEL • MAR 27, 2017

Vermont's two U.S. senators are opposing Neil Gorsuch, President Trump's pick to the Supreme Court. But the Senate is also on the verge of changing how it considers such controversial nominations in the future.

Under current rules, it takes 60 votes in the Senate to confirm a Supreme Court nominee, because that's the threshold needed to stop a filibuster, a procedural move to block the vote indefinitely.

In recent days, Senate Democratic leaders have made it very clear they will choose to filibuster to stop Judge Neil Gorsuch from assuming a seat on the high court.

He was on the fence about the filibuster.

I edited and included a part of his statement. He will not be voting to ADVANCE to nomination, either.

I wish I could be more optimistic but this hasn't been a good year for optimism.
