In all the current turmoil that's going on in the country today, I want to remind all of you of the words AND non-violent actions of this leader, husband, Dad, son and Brother.
Here are two of his better known speeches, with the 'mountain top' speech having been given just the night before he was murdered in Memphis.
"Mountain Top" -
"Vietnam War" -
The messages from these two speeches are timely today as they were 50ish years ago.

(26,622 posts)I was 20 on 4/4/68. Martin Luther King made such a huge impact on me and my generation. That I actually saw and heard live interviews, especially during the Selma march, is amazing. Watching that march on Washington in 1963.. never forget it.

We had a small B&W TV.
He said you will learn more fom watching this today, than you will at school
I actually don't remember which were on which days, school days or not. I was put 8n front of the TV though
I'll always appreciate him for that.
He wasn't a flaming liberal, but he frequently quoted MLK, voted for RFK...but then RReagan too.
I grew up in West Texas and New Mexico, Taos, before I started school.
I haven't really lived in West Texas since I was 17. I am reminded why whenever I return. Fish out of water.
However, at least when I lived there, I had some good experiences. The schools were integrated, and we all got along. It was richer culturally, and more fun. I had a black nanny, who was my mother, and she was wise and good to me. We wachd American Bandstand and Ed Sullivan. I say the Beatles.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
