(From this afternoon):
An exclusive poll commissioned by 11Alive News and conducted by SurveyUSA shows Democrat and political newcomer Jon Ossoff dominating in the race to replace Republican Tom Price in Georgia's sixth Congressional district.
Price was named Donald Trump secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services, leaving a vacuum that will be filled through an April 17 special election and, if needed, a June 20 runoff. The race has national implications as both parties scramble to grab the seat.
In the 11Alive poll, Ossoff grabs 43% of likely voters. Republicans Karen Handel (15%), Bob Gray (14%), and Dan Moody (7%) round out the top four. All other candidates combined make up 15%, and an additional 7% are undecided. Right now, Ossoff polls below the 50% needed to avoid a runoff.
"Polls are just polls. Now, it's all about turnout," Ossoff told 11Alive's Matt Pearl. "Turnout is key, but so, too, is uniting people around our vision for a local economy."

(5,586 posts)He's got some character issues that in normal times would have disqualified him, but then again, compared to Trump, the man is a Saint.
I get the feeling that 44-46% will be his ceiling, and once they go to a runoff, he'll lose to the likely Repub candidate.
I was here when we thought Jason Carter and Liz Nunn were forecasted to win, and they got trounced.

I had heard he had over-stated his security creds, but the above just lays him out - ouch

(8,138 posts)That is an anti-Dem PAC. They are guilty of the very thing they are accusing Ossoff of: puffery.
WaPo did give him a Pinocchio but it wasn't any worse than 99% of other candidates. He DID have security clearance, he has not lied about the time frame.
Here's the WaPo conclusion:
"We take a reasonable-person approach here at The Fact Checker. Would an ordinary viewer understand that Ossoffs clearance was for less than half a year? Not very likely. Moreover, declaring himself a senior national security staffer is also bit too much résumé puffery."
"Technically, Ossoff walks a very careful line. But the overall impression is misleading enough to merit a Pinocchio."

(6,044 posts)Georgia is one of 5 states using the easily hackable Diebold touch screen voting machines with 13year old technology. In last election there were reports of machines switching votes to Trump.
I applied online for a mail in ballot from the Secy States office. Never received it. (John Lewis's district).
Voter suppression is a reality. Too many democrats think computers voting is safe nd accurate everywhere. It isn't.

(24,572 posts)in every election since they were installed, and it doesn't help that there isn't a paper trail. As long as republicans are in charge, there will be highly questionable results. I vote, but I have zero confidence in the system.

(61,695 posts)Hee has David Perdue campaigning for him. Perdue said, "He's one of us." Loudest dog whistle I've heard in awhile.
On edit: Ossoff is saying he'll hold 45 accountable. I think it's resonating in that district. I think there is a lot of buyer's remorse there.

(8,617 posts)Paul Hackett(D-OH) ran for the US House in OH-2 during a 2005 special election to succeed Robert Portman who was then appointed US Trade Representative by Bush-43. Hackett lost the Special Election to Jean Schmidt by a 3 percent margin.
Since Hackett's defeat, Hackett considered running for the US Senate in 2006 but the DSCC and ODP endorsed Sherrod Brown-D for the 2006 OH US Senate Election.
Jon Ossoff (D-GA) will probably lose the runoff election in GA-6 by a narrow margin. Ossoff could seek a rematch in 2018 or run for Governor of GA in 2018 or run for the US Senate in 2020
