Source: DeadState,org
In an appearance on the Jim Bakker Show, conservative activists Don and Mary Colbert relayed a dire warning for anyone who opposed Donald Trump in the years and months before the 2016 election.
According to Mary Colbert, people who opposed Trump are destined to be cursed by God and that includes their children and grandchildren.
Its not that Donald Trump is all that perfect of a guy, Colbert said. We all know hes not. And we know that hes not necessarily perfect in every way that we would like. Thats not how God works. He works through the ones he chooses. We dont choose them.
All we have to do is recognize them and when you recognize a chosen one and you have the discernment to know that theyve been chosen and know that thats the will of God, then your life will be blessed. And if you come against the chosen one of God, you are bringing upon you and your children and your childrens children curses like you have never seen. It puts a holy fear in me.

(23,955 posts)pls don't ascribe the worst aspects of human behavior to our rodential relatives
Lemmings have become the subject of a widely popular misconception that they commit mass suicide when they migrate by jumping off cliffs. It is in fact not a mass suicide but the result of their migratory behavior. Driven by strong biological urges, some species of lemmings may migrate in large groups when population density becomes too great. They can swim and may choose to cross a body of water in search of a new habitat. In such cases, many may drown if the body of water is so wide as to stretch their physical capabilities to the limit. This fact and the unexplained fluctuations in the population of Norwegian lemmings gave rise to the misconception.

the rest of the animal kingdom seems to do okay, really. they're the results of natural, successful genetic experiments stretching back millions of years. meanwhile, it looks like 10000 years of human civilization could well be enough to end the entire biosphere as we know it.

(12,448 posts)Christians who claim they know it all. Even if I believed in their god, I still wouldn't believe that they know the mind of him/her/it.
They're damned dangerous. They hate democracy; they want a king "chosen by god."

(10,252 posts)Probably grew up in a fundamentalist family and were taught this crap. Or even had it beat into them. Maybe home schooled as kids or went to a Fundie Christian school that taught them fear and loathing, rather than love and tolerance. Don't think that I'm excusing them, because I'm not. It's so easy for them to escape responsibility for their judgemental attitudes, by claiming God's will did it to them. They don't know any better. They are simply just stupid people. We don't need to hate them, because they are filled with more than enough self-hatred for their own imperfections.

(26,587 posts)I think that they're cynically manipulating people who are stupid, and they know exactly what they're doing.
That makes them evil, not stupid.

(10,252 posts)I mean stupidity in the Buddhist understanding of lack of discerning wisdom. Lack of compassion, lack of how hateful speech can hurt and confuse people, lack of understanding how such talk creates suffering for themselves and others. In that sense, they are very stupid. And to the degree that they knowingly prey on gullible people, yes evil.

(12,448 posts)I know people, including myself, who were raised with fear. I had nightmares as a child because I knew I'd go to Hell and burn "for eternity." That wasn't fundie, it was from Catholic schools, but here's the deal: I grew up. I started questioning, and realized that it was all a load of crap.
I know a lot of ex-fundies, who also grew up. They're either atheists now, or following a (mostly) kinder, gentler religion. So no, I'm not going to excuse these people. They choose to remain ignorant.

(10,252 posts)One aspect of stupidity is failing to recognize that there are always other choices that we can make.

In this situation I believe the parable Jesus told ended with the punch line- 'render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, render unto God what is God's'- translation- politics and religion (or theology) don't mix...............

(31,413 posts)Pat Robertson after receiving his diagnosis of Cosmic Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Excerpt:
Perhaps the most commonly witnessed trait of the cosmic narcissist is the belief that he or she is "special" and can only be understood by, or should associate with, people (or institutions) who are also "special" or of high status (criteria 3). As mentioned earlier, people with strong religious convictions believe that they are supremely special, and this belief is fostered by the notion that a supreme being favors their group over all others. Individuals belonging to other groups then-- particularly to such groups that have substantially divergent religious beliefs-- are subsequently viewed as inferior. This sense of superiority harbored by cosmic narcissists often leads them to require excessive admiration (criteria 4) from others, particularly from those in different religious groups. When such admiration from the inferior other(s) is not received, the cosmic narcissists extreme sense of entitlement (criteria 5) is left ungratified. When other groups (again, particularly rival religious groups) fail to demonstrate sufficient admiration for the cosmic narcissists special status, and thus neglect his right to special entitlements, an urge to retaliate often results. The potential for catastrophe that can ensue when the cosmic narcissists needs are not met is perhaps summed up best by the late George Carlin, in his My god has a bigger dick than your god scenario.

(5,610 posts)Let's see if I figured out how this works. God gave Mary Colbert "discernment" but didn't give it to anyone who opposed the Gropenfuhrer. And she knows she has it because God chose her to have it. So, naturally, using this God-given discernment, she can discern that God has chosen Cheetolini to lead his people, so it sounds like he has some o' that discernment stuff too.
Or, in summary, God gave her the discernment to discern that God gave it to her. Pay attention, there will be a quiz next Monday.

(612 posts)God didn't choose Trump. And neither did the majority of Americans. He occupies this office because of a technicality known as the Electoral College. God had nothing to do with this, and - on the contrary - I'm convinced that we will be judged on our efforts (or lack thereof) to resist the people and policies that hurt the weakest and most vulnerable people in our society; the people and policies that move us toward conflict and violence. The ramblings of an ignorant and judgmental person have nothing to do with reality. This woman has no authority to speak for Christianity. This is ridiculous.
