at WH press meeting with King of Jordan. They wondered if that was related to Bannon's
demotion. Usually she's down in front.

Once you make the power play, you become a target, no matter how well deserved. Perhaps the Mercers want the scrutiny to die down some. Hoping for it anyway, maybe.
Both Bannon/Conway are Mercers finds and plants.
The Mercers backed Cruz at first, as did Conway, their minion.
Then they backed Trump and the Mercer cronies - Bannon/Conway - went to Trump.
I don't know. Just speculating.
I don't trust the Bannon is out story shaping up from the WH. He may be off the committee but that doesn't mean his influence is any less. Some in the press are suggesting it means Trump is yielding to saner heads.
Trump is all about how he is perceived, no matter what is behind the curtain. He wants you to to see only what the TV shows, not what is going on behind the staged scene.
Trump is a showman, in the most crude sense of the term.

Cambridge Analytica has a parent company, SCL or something like that, which is owned by the Russians, according to Louise Mensch:

So I would expect maybe he does not like how the investigation is getting closer to the hacking, and to him, and to the Mercers.
