United States Senate 1789-2017

On April 6, 2017, Mitch McConnell and other Republicans made a decision that will alter the federal government on a critical level. One can not represent the American people and simultaneously serve as lackeys of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Because of this, it must be known that the political body under Mitch McConnell is not the same political body described in the first article of the Constitution of the United States.

Denial of this fact will get you nowhere, there is no "rule of law" if the rules keep changing to benefit Trump and one party over the interests of the people. This is made all the more salient if you consider yourself a Democrat, a liberal, or a progressive; for there is an increasingly significant faction in the Republican Party that has all but openly declared war on you and at the very least demands your erasure from the public discourse. This is an overt failure to represent all of the American people.

A legitimate Senate would not enable Trump, it would act as a roadblock, not as an enabler. But there has been no action seen here reflecting of that. The response of the American people should be to mourn it and then treat it as an illegal entity, with Mitch McConnell's leadership being no different than the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. With this knowledge, perhaps the Senate in a form representing the American people can be brought back in some way some day in the future.

Senate as the political body reflecting the will of the American people, you will be missed.

"Senate as the political body reflecting the will of the American people, you will be missed."

The Senate is perhaps the most ANTIdemocratic body on the planet where now 18% of the US population gets 52% of the seats. It was designed to be our House of Lords. As Madison said it was to protect the "opulent of the minority against the majority". Right now Dem Senators represent 33 million more Americans than does the GOP but the GOP controls the body.

Reflects the will of the American People my ass.

Court. If we can take back the house and senate, he can be impeached as illegitimate.
By then he will have made some odious rulings as well.

5. It'd take too many Senators to impeach him. We'd need Democratic POTUS/Senate

We now directly vote for Senators, Harry Reid took away the filibuster on lower court nominees, the filibuster itself wasn't used until the 1830s and cloture was introduced at the behest of Woodrow Wilson got pissed that some anti-war Senators blocked a bill. At the time Cloture required 2/3rd rather than 3/5ths.

That's before considering things like women and minorities voting much less serving in the Senate.

4. If I ever hear some asshole on TV wondering WHY our country is divided, I will punch them as soon

as I am done puking. The country is divided because the GOP has the ball and they will NOT SHARE.
Don't even pretend it is because of "partisanship" on BOTH sides.
This is just the latest slap in the face from Republicans. We have to accept that WAR is what they WANT!
And we better give it to them or just roll over and die.
