ELI5--How come these people living near the Mexican border voted for Trump,

who proclaimed bigly and loudly that he was going to build a wall, are now upset about their land being taken by the government (although they're paid for it)?

It wasn't like the proposed wall was a big SECRET.....

I hope some reporter asks them, "Then why in the world did you vote for him?"
