(6,044 posts)you might try "people."
So your post is inviting guys (men)to consider a new guy (male).
If you don't think language matters or that females are included in the term "males," you might try addressing a mixed audience as just "ladies" instead of Ladies and Gentleman" or as women instead of "Men and Women"
Using "guys" when addressing everyone is like the old days when women were not allowed in the public sphere.
I think that men and woman are equal, and women are not a subset of men (that wasthe Adam's rib anti-scientific story or creation).
If you think it doesn't matter anymore try addressing a mixed audience as "gals." and see if men think they are included. They may even be offended.

Don't try this Gotcha crap when you can tell my intentions.
Feel free to add me to your Ignore list.

(6,044 posts)The Oxford dictionary attesting to informal usage is meaningless regarding the issue of equality.
I cannot tell your intentions.
In general I do not ignore people.

(11,841 posts)EVERYTHING, not matter how trivial, pisses off someone. What a sad existence
And yes, THIS is about as trivial as you can get. Hope this person never comes down south, where every waitress will ask "are you guys doing OK?"

(6,044 posts)audiences as Gentlemen used to make women invisible.
I could feel the difference in Germany, when mixed groups of men, women, and children were addressed as People
Guten Morgen, Leute. ---everyone was included equally
Once in a while I address a group of men as "you gals"----the negative reaction is immediate.
Few women object to "you guys." I think this is the legacy of of women being considered a subset of men.
I use the term people for groups because it is a term of equality- every human being is a person-whether identifying as male, female, child or identifying as none of the above. As we deal with gender identity issues, I think it helps to use one term for all of us that doesn't carry the freight of inequality.

(53,035 posts)for a second person plural. Other options are y'all and yous, which are also regional. "You people" is taken as a negative. It's hard to find an alternative.

(6,044 posts)"All of you" sounds fine to me as does , "You all". I favor "people" because all are included-children as well as people who do not identify with the historic genders.
The term people keeps us all in the human family -similarly many disabled people prefer that they be referred to as disabled people rather than "the disabled."
I understand your point regarding the deficiencies of English. It is a good point and one worth pondering.
I find the new experimental pronouns difficult use (so far) but understand the how some people do feel trapped in the traditional language.
