The ban protected hibernating bears from being hunted, along with wolf cubs in dens. It also protected these animals from being targeted from helicopters.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spent years declining state officials' attempts to extend predator-killing practices into federal wildlife refuges. To cap the requests, the government agency put forth a rule in late 2016 protecting wildlife on all Alaskan refuges from predator control.
The ban was a part of former U.S. president Barack Obama's climate change legacy, and just one in a line-up of environmental protection laws that are on the chopping block under the incumbent.

Bill Maher brought this up tonight - said exactly what I've been thinking. There is nothing he's done with any point to it - putting lead back in paint, rolling back auto emissions standards, killing defenseless animals - except causing harm to children, those of us who breathe, and the rest of God's creatures...

(205,503 posts)What he's actually doing is eliminating programs that seek to limit children's exposure to lead paint, something we've been warned about for years. This is yet another Trump initiative that'll harm countless Americans - especially young kids. I read about it yesterday and Bill Maher mentioned it on his show tonight.
Trumps EPA moves to dismantle programs that protect kids from lead paint
Environmental Protection Agency officials are proposing to eliminate two programs focused on limiting childrens exposure to lead-based paint, which is known to cause damage to developing brains and nervous systems.
The proposed cuts, outlined in a 64-page budget memo revealed by The Washington Post on Friday, would roll back programs aimed at reducing lead risks by $16.61 million and more than 70 employees, in line with a broader project by the Trump administration to devolve responsibility for environmental and health protection to state and local governments.
Old housing stock is the biggest risk for lead exposure and the EPA estimates that 38 million U.S. homes contain lead-based paint.
Environmental groups said the elimination of the two programs, which are focused on training workers in the safe removal of lead-based paint and public education about its risks, would make it harder for the EPA to address the environmental hazard.

(90,773 posts)but who really enjoy showing off the heads and skins of defenseless dead animals. They think they are big game hunters - but like everything else handed to them in life, the animal heads on their wall are no different.
