(49,013 posts)His first promise was to defeat ISIS in 30 days.
Then his next promise was to give the "stupid" generals a plan in 30 days to defeat ISIS.
Then his next promise was to get a plan from the generals within 30 days to defeat ISIS.
One bomb does not defeat ISIS.
But he and his core don't care. Kabuki theater is enough to satisfy him and them.

(57,513 posts)Didn't Roosevelt himself get on the radio following Jimmy Doolittle's bombing run over Tokyo and announce "Mission accomplished! It's all over now!"?
He didn't?
I must be thinking of someone else. Roosevelt's sons eventually ended up in the service. He would have too much self-respect, and respect for others, to do that.
I'm thinking today might be the day in 1945 that FDR's funeral procession in DC happened.
PS: The title won't allow the use of the word "résumé." The accents are stripped out.

Totally OT, but today has a bunch of interesting anniversaries:
1865 President Abraham Lincoln dies after being shot the previous evening by actor John Wilkes Booth. Vice President Andrew Johnson, becomes President upon Lincoln's death.
1892 The General Electric Company is formed.
1912 The British passenger liner RMS Titanic sinks in the North Atlantic at 2:20 a.m., two hours and forty minutes after hitting an iceberg. Only 710 of 2,227 passengers and crew on board survive.
1920 Two security guards are murdered during a robbery in South Braintree, Massachusetts. Anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti would be convicted of and executed for the crime, amid much controversy.
1922 U.S. Senator John B. Kendrick of Wyoming introduces a resolution calling for an investigation of a secret land deal, which leads to the discovery of the Teapot Dome scandal.
1945 Bergen-Belsen concentration camp is liberated.
1947 Jackie Robinson debuts for the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking baseball's color line.
1955 McDonald's restaurant dates its founding to the opening of a franchised restaurant by Ray Kroc, in Des Plaines, Illinois
1964 The first Ford Mustang rolls off the show room floor, two days before it is set to go on sale nationwide.
1969 The EC-121 shootdown incident: North Korea shoots down a United States Navy aircraft over the Sea of Japan, killing all 31 on board.
2013 Two bombs explode near the finish line at the Boston Marathon in Boston, Massachusetts, killing three people and injuring 264 others.

(57,513 posts)He died on a Saturday morning, too. He and the missus had gone to Ford's Theatre to take in the Good Friday evening performance of "Our American Cousin."
'Assassins!': A Confederate spy was accused of helping kill Abraham Lincoln. Then he vanished.
April 15 is a day of many remarkable anniversaries.
And you are right; Roosevelt's funeral procession in DC was on April 14, 1945, 72 years ago today. My mom went to see that. April 14 was on a Saturday in 1945. It must have been a nice warm day, just like today. WTOP says it's 67 degrees in DC right now, but it's warmer than that. It's at least in the mid-seventies.

The funeral procession of President Franklin D. Roosevelt moves on the streets of Washington DC
Spectators line sidewalks in Washington,DC, to watch the funeral procession of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Police motorcycle escort surrounds flag-draped coffin of the President, resting on caisson pulled by team of horses. Color Guard and several closed black limousines are immediately behind. Two open cars, with Secret Service agents on their running boards, are seen next. The closest one carries the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sam Rayburn, and other officials. A contingent of Women Marines, in dress blues, marches ahead of the casket. Other military units march ahead of them in the distance. Change of scene with brief glimpse of sailors marching along Delaware Avenue, with Union Station in the background. Shift back to the President's casket continuing to move along. Grass and trees line the sides of the street, where spectators fill the sidewalks. Closeup of an open car carrying DC police chief, Edward J. Kelly and other police officials, followed by motorcycle policemen, and the team of horses pulling the caisson with the President's casket. Closeup of closed limousine carrying mourners. Open car carrying House Speaker Rayburn, and others. US Navy Fleet Admiral Ernest King and an officer salute. People in the background. Location: Washington DC. Date: April 14, 1945.

(10,718 posts)dropping bombs doesn't necessarily lead to anything anyone wants. Bush Jr dropped plenty of bombs, and created ISIS. Dropping more bombs now isn't a strategy, but an admission that the last 15 years of dropping bombs didn't work as planned.
