I was in college during the 50th anniversary of Jackie's entrance to the league. I had always admired him and wrote a poem titled "Jackie at the Bat"...to the rhythm of "Casie at the Bat". I ended up sending it to the dodgers, to Jackie's widow, and to Cooperstown. I ended up receiving a package of Dodgers swag, a lovely letter from Mrs Robinson, and a postcard from the HoF that featured Jackie's plaque, on the card the Hall thanked me for them poem and added it to their archives. It was a cool moment for a college kid...still love and admire Jackie Robinson!

To his death, the mere mention of Robinson's name will elicit three words from Yogi. "He was out," he'll invariably say with his trademark grin. When Robinson died in 1972 and Berra was asked to characterize him as an opponent, he replied, "He was a hard out."

Hell, Yogi even lectured Jackie how he was out.
