Emma Morano, last living person born in 1800s, has died

The last person known to have been born during the 1800s has died.

Emma Morano died in her home in Italy on Saturday at the age of 117, The Associated Press reports, citing her doctor.

Born on Nov. 29, 1899, she was named as the world’s oldest known person in May 2016.

Something of a momentous event that we have lost the last living connection to the 1800s. We can offically close the book on that century. It is all history now.

Just kidding, but I love when people ask the cause of death for someone when they successfully kick life's ass. I had a grandfather (I actually had two) and he died at 93 and people asked (without thinking) how he died. I liked to answer that he flipped his Harley on a beer run.

We can all only hope to see 90.

Ironically she slept thru the gay sex scene. Some british show (London Spy). But she has woken up and is watching it.

My great grandmother died at 99 and 10 months. (Recent research indicates that she was actually 100 and 10 months).

I told people at work that my great grandmother died. They responded: "I'm so sorry. What happened?"

I would respond "She was fighting an oil rig fire in the Gulf of Mexico." Then I would quickly say "She was 99."

This happened 20 years ago in March 1997. The Golden Girls episode was in November 1988.

Here it is. Start watching at 1:30

The last person to have experienced the 1800's. That is a real touch of time on us all.

Someone had said that a person actually dies twice. The first is the actual physical death and the second is when the last person to have had any experience with that person dies. That has also given me some feeling for our contact with the world beyond just our physical existence.

I have marveled at the fact that I was born before the last Civil War veteran passed away, hence I feel some connection to that event.

That person would technically have been born in the 19th century as we start counting from 1 not zero.
