A Trump supporter last year was caught impersonating her dead mother at a polling place but she wont face charges, despite committing a clear act of voter fraud.
While reporting on the North Carolina Board of Elections recently completed investigation into voter fraud in the state, the Raleigh News & Observer revealed that authorities in Catawba County found that a local woman pretended to be her late 89-year-old mother so she could deliver an additional vote for Donald Trump.
Prosecutors decided against charging the woman with a crime because she sincerely believed that impersonating a dead person at her local polling place was not an act of voter fraud.

Seriously? They used the Dinnow defense? She didn't know so no crime committed?

(52,308 posts)however, it's difficult to believe that *impersonating* someone else doesn't show criminal intent.
if she honestly thought she was entitled to cast a vote on behalf of a corpse, she might have just said, at the voting booth, "hey, my mom's dead, can I cast a vote on her behalf?" that would reveal it was perhaps an honest mistake.
but *impersonating* someone pretty much shows you knew damn well it was not proper.

(88 posts)but the weirdness in me is charmed this girl thinks her 1 vote matters so god damned much that for just 1 more vote she committed a crime. Open your eyes sweety, your side's stealing these things outright. You don't have to do this to yourself or your future to push your political agenda.

(574 posts)NM2000 said it well:
"Bullshit. There was too much talk of fraud before the election--not to mention basic common sense--for any halfway rational person to claim they didn't know that impersonating a dead person to vote a second time wasn't illegal. Besides, she didn't show up with paperwork and ask how to vote on her mothers behalf, she pretended to actually be her mother and hid her real ID, which screams that she knew it was wrong to me."

(3,148 posts)North Carolina excessively purged voting rolls and made it harder to vote by implementing strict voter ID laws. So when they finally find an actual case of in-person voting fraud they do nothing! FFS They should have fined her 10,000 dollars and gave her ten years in prison. Also for a state that made it harder for people to vote. This is what they said about the total (508) of ineligible votes that they found from last year elections.
