Kyung Wha Chung at Carnegie -- The SIX BACH SONATAS AND PARTITAS - May 18,

I posted this in CLASSICAL MUSIC.
201 views, 2 recs and 0 replies.. Ah well..
So, I thought I would post it again here..

The legendary Kyung-Wha Chung, one of the greatest violinists of this or any other generation, will perform ALL SIX Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin on the same concert !

For ANYBODY at all interested in classical music, or just culture and the arts in general, this is a REALLY BIG DEAL.

If that is not your cup of tea.. not so much..

Damn straight I will be there. :&gt ))

It is a foreground/background thing, as Douglas Hofstadter wrote about in Godel, Escher, Bach. As Hofstadter explains the background and contrapuntal melodies are filled in by the listener's brain.

J S Bach! Was brilliant.

Here! Here is Glenn Gould from 1955. 32 not so simple variations on a rather delightful theme.

Bum, bum, ba-bum, ba-bum de-bum de-bummm...

And yes, the contrapuntal is more explicit here.

Also, I recommend the six solo cello suites for pure Bach.

Here:

Without any judgements, the difference between the two performances is interesting.

Both are extraordinary performances!

I will not even compare or judge either..
It is like looking up from base camp.

The only thing I prefer, if I had to choose one to be with on a desert island, would be... the harpsichord...

So there it is....

But then........
