we've had major floods on the island after close to 36 hours of rain

in our central, south-eastern and eastern parishes.
People were rescued in their ceiling in one part of Clarendon as rivers are in spate.
Boulders are falling in the Flat Bridge area. St Thomas and Portland are messed up.

Ah well this too will pass

it rarely floods around here. The coastal folks, communities close to rivers and areas prone to mudslides - those folks suffer over and over. Many folks were stuck on the roads for hours.
Haven't seen non-tropical storm/hurricane rain like this since 2002 and the failure to warn folks is the worst part.

We changed all our plans since Friday because I don't joke with weather in these parts.

Folks are crazy here - they'll jump up and wave through the streets - rain or no rain.
Meanwhile lots of folks in rural Jamaica have had their homes destroyed or severely damaged.

The loss of livestock and pets is bad enough. What a disaster!

We knew rain was coming because we watch the weather but we were sure when one of the feral cats (who had kittens a few days ago) moved them to the kitty carrier on the patio. Animals are amazing.

We are under a flood watch here in Central North Carolina until Tuesday. The local meteorologists are saying we could get 1-4 inches of rain.

No rain right but the forecast suggests that it will be back later - the air is clean and it's cool.
Very pleasant for those of us who have no flood water or damage.

Stay safe
