An Arizona Legislator Gave an Invocation That Didnt Mention God.

https://www.thenation.com/article/an-arizona-legislator-gave-an-invocation-that-didnt-mention-god-you-wont-believe-what-happened-next/

Arizona legislators sign up to deliver an invocation at the opening of the daily floor session of the state House. But when newly elected state representative Athena Salman’s time came to inspire the chamber, all hell broke loose.

The Tempe Democrat stepped up on April 18 to offer a exceptionally thoughtful statement that reflected on high ideals, shared values and the pursuit of a more perfect union:

The new legislator’s invocation drew an immediate rebuke from Republicans in the chamber, who objected that she had not chosen to “invoke a higher power.” A Republican legislator demanded that he be allowed to present a substitute prayer and went on to offer a Christian pronouncement. House Majority Leader John Allen, a Republican from Scottsdale, embraced the objections, declaring that: “I know it’s difficult to understand, but a prayer should be to a higher power.” Allen and others criticized Salman for violating the rules for the chamber by offering a humanist invocation.

And I mean that!

It is ridiculous that she is criticized for not including a prayer to a higher power. I want to see what the rules of the chamber are. The Democratic legislator, Athena Salman, is criticized for violating those rules? Do the rules state that the prayer must be to a higher power, or do the rules prohibit a humanist invocation? I will look it up.

I still am perplexed by how our Constitution provides for the separation of church and state, yet, whenever God or a higher power is not mentioned, controversy abounds. The Repugs apparently just have too much guilt and shame in their own lives, that they feel the need to express their belief or faith in God whenever they get the chance.

I have lived in AZ for 24 years from northwest IN, and this red state is slowly turning blue...much of which I attribute to the fact that we have a lot of California transplants, and often follow laws and regulations made in California first.

For those not familiar with AZ, Tempe is primarily democratic, most likely due to it being a college town, ASU. Scottsdale, on the other hand, leans primarily Republican. Hopefully we won't be the Wild West in the coming years. We DID finally get rid of the racist, narcissistic Sheriff Joe Arpaio!

Or one of the thousands of other deities that humans have created.

What a monumentally stupid thing to have a hissy fit about.

This isn't one nation under god - no matter what the Republicans say.

During the course of any Government activity...

And the most telling part of this whole scenario is that these m-f*kers do not even have the fucking decency to ... wait for it.... RESPECT.... their fellow member's offering/expressions...

Not only did they fail to exhibit common courtesy-- which would have been to keep their opinions to themselves--
They fucking felt empowered and dominant enough that they could get away with humiliating their fellow representative by
1. Calling attention to what they did not like

2. Demanding that a CORRECTION be made in the form of a SUBSTITUTE expression-- Do Over

3. Providing the SUBSTITUTE expression

4. And then to top it off... some ass kissing neutered condescending worm from the same fucking state treats this fellow member as if shes a fucking brainless zombie who is not capable of "understanding" ....

WoW ... who the fuck voted for these people to "represent" them???

Time We started taking the position more responsibly. Ms. Salman is pointing Us in the right direction, by not relying on delusions -- no matter how widely shared -- of a so-called "higher power".

Or so I've been told.

I guess respecting religious differences only applies to not saying RW Christians are religious bigots.
