Contradict the medical profession on abortion accessibility at your own political risk

"Safe, legal abortion is a necessary component of women's health care. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists supports the availability of high-quality reproductive health services for all women and is committed to improving access to abortion. Access to abortion is threatened by state and federal government restrictions, limitations on public funding for abortion services and training, stigma, violence against abortion providers, and a dearth of abortion providers. Legislative restrictions fundamentally interfere with the patient-provider relationship and decrease access to abortion for all women, and particularly for low-income women and those living long distances from health care providers. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists calls for advocacy to oppose and overturn restrictions, improve access, and mainstream abortion as an integral component of women's health care."

To say that a politician, in order to get votes in conservative areas should or may be "flexible" on contradicting this consensus of medical professionals is no different than saying a politician may be "flexible" about:

-denying that climate change is human driven.

-saying defunding Planned Parenthood will "reduce abortions."

-touting the idea of the safety of vaccinations being unproven, or 'needing re-visiting."

-promoting the idea that the primary driver of "poor school performance" isn't poverty and underfunding - it's unmotivated, overpaid teachers.

We are supposed to be the party that supports science, un-politicized data, educated counsel, and not incidentally that social justice being good for us is **backed up by fact and scholarship.**

When anyone dismisses a public health and safety concern as a "social issue" they are NOT demonstrating respect for actual progressive policies as have been shown to us by facts, study and expertise.

A mind that would refuse to change in the light of scientific evidence is not one that we need leading us. We could just vote GOP and get that.

I think a good many people latch on to abortion to keep from looking at sexism, income disparity, lack of opportunities for women world-wide, poverty among single women/mothers, lack of availability of at-the-ready health-care services for women to include birth control - emergency and otherwise, lack of education, domestic violence etc.. (list is in no particular order)

Abortion becomes the all encompassing social ill instead of all the things that can lead to a woman seeking an abortion. As if banning a medical procedure will somehow change the actual underlining social problems/issues.

Much like evolution and climate change, beliefs and opinions should never ever trump (Damn that man) facts and science.

I don't care what some god or lifestyle guru tells anyone - they can pass the blunt but they need to keep that other shit to themselves.
