Short answer: this is a concept, yes pilots would be trained, but circular runways would have additional automation to make it easier. Plus the runway is banked.

A cute and thought provoking concept but functionally unworkable and creates more problems than it solves. Cool looking concept drawing though.

Planes have to take off and land into the wind. How are you going to manufacture circular winds to make that possible?

have to fly past the airport and turn around to approach from the correct direction, or when you take off aimed away from your destination and have to make a big turn before you even start going where you're going. This would totally fix that issue, because you could land/depart in whatever direction was most appropriate. Much more convenient, and the increased frequency of horrible fiery wrecks would be a small price to pay...
