The other 98% wake up each morning and check 2 things.

Points the person struggles to find something good to say. I don't see a lot of good points but they continue to cling to FOX fake news.

Yeah, that number just drops my jaw. For whatever reason, TWO percent?

MAN...

It is true, though, that we mortals do have trouble admitting we were wrong. Nobody likes to have to do that. It's even harder to admit one has been HAD.

Maybe there's just a whole lot of denial out there?

I don't think it's denial so much as it is embarrassment.

Pollsters know well that people lie to them. When they used to do polls about magazines asking what people read, people said they read intellectual high prestige publications, not lowbrow tabloids. Except the circulation numbers of those respective types of magazines showed how much they were bullshitting.

Now imagine you're a supposed "Christian". That's a big part of your identity. And you're being asked by some pollster if you're voting for the pussy grabber. Or if you did. Nobody has to know who you actually voted for, right?

This is one of the main reasons the polls were off. It used to be a big problem with black candidates as well. They under-performed their polling by 10% due to all the racists pretending they weren't.

I wouldn't want to have to admit to anybody, on the record, that I had voted for the pussy grabber, especially if I had a daughter (here's lookin' at YOU, Jason Chaffetz).

So I'd make something up, too.

But when the pollster goes away or they conclude their phone call and hang up, the bathroom mirror is still there. And how they face themselves in that, I will never understand.

Justification, excuse-making, and denial - all reign supreme with some of these folks. My husband and I often parrot some of the one-liners we've heard and read from man/woman-on-the-street interviews: "I know what I know." Usually that's something that pops up when the person uttering that statement actually doesn't know SQUAT.

Pretending to yourself that you're oppressed is a heady drug. It excuses you from having to be moral or considerate of others.

That's really the root of it.

I've seen this kind of behavior not only with Republicans but with people who should know better as well.

It is hard for people to admit that they are wrong. Some of them may just stay quiet about things. Some may go into the voting booth next time and quietly vote for Democrats. They may tell only their closest friends. They may never tell anyone.

... that 2% could be totally correct. My family all still think he's great. Russia? Its a loser's fantasy, Fox says so. Conflict's of interest? Just crybaby lefties whining about losing. Lies and unkept promises? He's "evolving to the situation". See why I don't spend much time with them? Me and my Mother cannot speak to each other for more than 10 minutes at a time.

I really think that the ..... fantasies that some in here have about his supporters "seeing the light" are not grounded in reality. His core is going to STAY his core no matter what. We need to face reality here people, we can't get lulled into a sense "Oh, its just a matter of time", we need to resist and not let up.
