Are we doing this again? We're still doing trickle-down and pretending it works?
We are one stupid mother fucking country.

(31,464 posts)What will this accomplish? They're making too much money, so we should cut their taxes and then what? They'll make even more money and give it back to us? Really? How stupid are we?

(42,766 posts)Trump does not have the confidence of the Industrialists and the Capitalists.
His multi-bankruptcy past and his shady deals make them wary of him. He
would also need to gain favor with the general public, and many have a very
low opinion of him and that won't change. It's going to be a very long four
years. Even if he is somehow replaced we will still have (R)s in control. They
will, as always, be lining their own pockets first.

(16,245 posts)They raised taxes on the rich and, by doing so, turned a deficit into a surplus. Why the fuck are Republicans so fucking stupid that they can't see this?

(4,192 posts)Let's face it, our media is what informs us as a cultural collective. Right now it's almost completely controlled by people with an agenda that doesn't include the betterment of humanity or life on Earth for that matter. Economic self-interest is what generally drives the stories we hear.
If the Democratic platform were pushed out to the people as consistently and relentlessly as the conservative message is being done today, people would get it. And the real life effects of liberal policies would reinforce themselves (think 40-hour work weeks, weekends, paid vacations, affordable health care, safe working environments, safe cars to drive, clean water, clean food, labeled ingredients on packaged foods, the right to sue corporations for malfeasance, and on and on and on).
Instead, people are fed a steady diet of materialistic bullshit and biased stories that feed into fears, prejudices, and hatred of others. It's not enough to just call people stupid for being sucked into that whirlwind, lacking knowledge that would actually work in their favor, what else can we expect. We have got to change the narrative and do it in a way that doesn't rely on the goodness of selfish, greedy assholes.
Maybe that's the silver lining of the dark cloud we are under now. It's become a lot easier to point and say, "Do you get it now! Republicans don't care about you, they will take everything and leave us - we the People- with nothing. They want us in debt and working for their benefit... not our own. If it were blasted out on the airwaves and ethernet cables everywhere just how much Liberal policies have protected us and helped us to rise out of poverty, the republican brand would sink into obscurity.
I am very clear on just how important Liberal ideas are now. They are not for the authoritarian ruling class and have been suppressed for ages. But just look at what a modicum of implementation of those ideas in the form of the New Deal did for us... an explosion of a middle class from the 1940s through the 1960s. Bucked the trends of thousands of years of civilizations being ruled by despots, monarchs, and all manner of selfish people who were willing to be cruel to get what they wanted.
Republican ideas suck (but we already know that here). And they require a whole industry of propaganda and billions of wasted dollars to sell that snake oil. The best we can do is keep waking people up to what is going on. Hopefully we can reach the tipping point before it's too late. But the bottom line is that the narrative must change or the people will not.
