In addition, the Trump administration has refused to comply with requests from the committee for any and all documents related to this matter. Breaking news on CNN which is broadcasting a press conference by the committee principals.

(435 posts)Ol' General Flynn is in a heap of trouble . .
. . and remember folks, he has a story tell.

(5,648 posts)They are simply saying that there no evidence what so ever that he complied with the law. Now we know why he was seeking immunity from prosecution for his testimony. He had better have some major dirt on someone higher if he wants to save his skin - he could spend up to 5 years in jail.

(35,454 posts)he can still slip away from this as I don't see Sessions doing anything to endanger 45

(1,058 posts)One of two things will happen:
1. He'll make a plea, and provide evidence that is strong enough to point blame, but not convict someone higher up. He'll lose his military pension, and will likely have to become a paid Fox news guest to make ends meet.
2. He won't squeal, will take the fall for this, and he'll get pardoned. Once pardoned, his military pension is restored.
Which one do you think is more appealing to Flynn?
The "story he wants to tell" is clearly angling for the 2nd, not the first.
If Trump can politically survive everything else that I thought would tank him, I don't see why he'd take a big hit for pardoning Flynn.
But then again, I'm cynical, and hope I'm wrong.

Nobody in this Admin is going to face any consequences as long as Republican traitors are in charge.

(5,648 posts)When the investigation is over I expect the FBI to arrest him. If he cooperates with the investigation he may get away with simply turning over the money got from the Russians to the government.

(1,462 posts)What agency will be the one to bring him down? I'm asking because I have zero faith in the GOP to seek justice. Therefore it has to be an agency or organization that doesn't answer to nor is polluted by corrupt partisan repukes.

(5,648 posts)...and even the separation between the investigative units of the FBI and the Attorney General, especially where the Attorney General has recused himself on these matters. The FBI continues to investigate the administration's collusion in the hacking without restraint despite the fact that Sessions is in charge. Pray that he does try to interfere. Prior administrations were brought down not by the crime, but the cover up.

(1,462 posts)I get frustrated with things taking so long. Also feel like the Turnip administration is above the law. It's depressing sometimes. I mean if they are guilty then lock them up already! Patience is not my strong suit!

(5,648 posts)But FBI investigations of this magnitude are by no means quick.
I take solace in the fact that while the investigation continues the entire administration remains under a cloud which hampers its effectiveness. One the investigation is over, unless they find a way to nail Trump himself (and I am doubtful that will happen), the bad guys will be separated out (and they are probably not associated with Trump anymore) and the public will move on to other things. While the investigation continues, it is like continually pulling off a scab with each new revelation.
I like that.

(6,324 posts)Article 2 of the UCMJ:
(a) The following persons are subject to this chapter:
.....
(4) Retired members of a regular component of the armed forces who are entitled to pay.
So he could face action from military authorities and courts, civilian authorities and courts or even both as being tried under civilian law and the UCMJ for the same offense is not considered double jeopardy.

(9,670 posts)Is that how this would go down?
And if so...is that how it would go down for all the cast of characters that also broke the law? Page, Manafort, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, et al?

(5,648 posts)Normally the FBI investigates until they are sure they understand all of he elements of a case. Then they and the DOJ prosecutors decide if they have enough evidence to take the case to trial. Only if the prosecutors decide they have enough evidence to proceed with a criminal case are charges filed and arrests made.
