4Chan Poster avoids getting a Darwin Award… But not from lack of trying

4chan user finds a grenade in the woods, tries unsuccessfully to detonate it. Evolution misses another one.

So this dumbass finds an old grenade in the woods, so what does he do? He takes a picture of it and then goes straight to 4chan for suggestions. He then tries several times to detonate it— pulls out the pin, puts it in the microwave, sets it on fire, hits it with a hammer and runs over it with his car. Sadly, the grenade didn’t go off and the poster survived.

Yes, it's actually in a microwave oven.

Even after all of the memorabilia raids, you can still find LIVE cannonballs on Civil War historical sites if you know where to look...

Put it the microwave? What a dumb suggestion. Metal should never go in the microwave.

I was 11 years old so stupidity was a condition of life at the time.

I found some bullets lying in the street so I took them home and got out a hammer.
I laid a 2X4 on the ground in front of one of the bullets and hit the end of the case with the hammer.

==BANG!!!==

It went off.
I picked up the 2X4 and inspected it.
Hmm. No hole. It must have spun around and shot off in some other direction.

I put the 2X4 back on the ground and lined up another bullet.

I am lucky to be alive.
Never did manage to shoot the board and I was lucky it didn't hit my dad's tire that was right next to it.

Come to think of it, the 4chan user might have been 11 too.

Without a barrel the bullet cannot gain the velocity required to kill you. The case actually becomes more dangerous as it can throw off metal shards.

It's a tale of alcohol, a camp fire, and stupidity (and more alcohol) of the group I was camping with.

I was actually out playing Army with my older brother and his friend. We stopped at a spot where people had been doing open dumping in an old strip mine. I saw the grenade, picked it up, grabbed the pin to pull it and toss at the other two then ... "hey, guys, they wouldn't make a toy grenade out of metal, would they?"

Came that close to killing myself or those two. Or, it might have been a dud. They never tested it. They just put it in with a batch of stuff to be blown up (see "at weapons manufacturing plant" below).

So we carried it home instead. Walked into the kitchen and sat it down on the kitchen table in front of my Dad (ex-Marine and ex-firefighter at a weapons manufacturing plant). He grabbed it and ran outside. Locked us in the house and called the nearby naval base. They wrapped it in duct tape and shoved it in a bomb-resistant box. Promised they would send me a dud. They never did.

Hey, Navy, you owe me a fucking hand grenade.

No telling if the OP was serious, or if he was just jerking /b/'s chain.

Handwriting makes me think the person is somewhere in Europe (Germany, perhaps?).

If he's in this country, he could be in for a surprise.

ATF/FBI could subpoena the server logs, trace the IP and pay a visit to Mr. Demolition Experts home (or notify local LEA's of the situation).

Sometimes baiters are so obvious. But this thread of posts is delicious. They are actually trying to get this idiot to blow himself up. (Not that I believe any of it.)

For the real story, Google "Darwin award land mine"

Have fun with that grenade.
