Why did the Trump administration need all of the Senators out of their offices for one day?

To plant bugs and raid internal paperwork with Russian spies? Find out who knows what in the senate? Mmmmm just a guess.
But why on earth would the White House create this Dog and Pony show except to divert attention away from some other activity. Soviet spy style?

Not to plant bugs. There would be staffers in all of those offices. And easier to do at night with someone disguised as a janitor--lol.

I think it was a show for Kim Jung-Un and anyone else that could be impressed or intimidated by the optics of it. The senators got nothing out of it.

The smell of desperation as the 100 day mark approaches is very strong!

it stinks of Trump-style optics. "Hey look! I can order these guys to ride buses to our meeting instead of riding in their limos. It would have made more sense for our people to go there, but I made them come to me."

It's easy to spot power brokers. Just look for who gets to make who wait, and who has to travel to who's office.

Trump is all about one-ups-manship. All about the optics.

Especially since the Senators said there was nothing in the brief they couldn't have read in the newspaper. (Or online, if they're onboard the 21st century).

Right now, we still have the existence of a separation of powers at least in theory, but Trump's doing what he can just to try to make it look like he alone is the supreme authority in all the land.

So he'll do anything that puts his perceived rivals in a weaker light.

Same reason why he ordered the Syrian missile strike while the Chinese President was chowing down on chocolate cake.

Same reason why he had that bizarre half-minute handshake with the Japanese Prime Minister.
