CNN's Tara Palmieri: A member of the "prass." Not a typo: Baby-talk on TV.

Honestly- Do you think maybe you should not be talking on tv if you sound like a 5th grader? It's not just her: I hear it almost every day. Can we keep TV politics for the grown-ups? Is it really just me?

Yes. It's the intonation of a 5th grade anti-schoolwork rant. How do these children lindysalsagal Apr 2017 #4

Too many sound like and think like "Valley Girls". Fast talking, high-pitched whine. Either the mute button goes on or fast-forward is pushed.

I checked out a couple clips on YouTube. A few impressions:

- She seems to follow Sippy Cupp's example of thinking that big glasses make the speaker smarter. They don't. They remind people of those cute baby pictures where babies (or puppies) wear big ol' glasses.
- She opens her mouth too wide when she speaks. That could be where "press" turns into "prass."
- She keeps "umming" and fumbling for words.
- This is a pet peeve of mine, ymmv: nearly every sentence ends in a rising intonation. She even does it in the middle of sentences. She is supposed to be conveying news and facts (yeah, a shaky proposition, but still...), but it's like she's begging for the listener's approval before continuing. Declarative sentences should be spoken with a drop in pitch at the end.

She needs a lot of practice and coaching before she can be taken seriously.

Get these jobs? As I'm listening, her inane valley-girl sing-song discredits the whole show.

I can't stand the valley girl speech. And the vocal fry.
