Trump Evades Tax Return Question: 'I'll Make a Decision' After 'Routine Audit' Is Complete

by Justin Baragona | 12:12 pm, April 30th, 2017

Last week, while unveiling the outline of the White House’s tax reform plan, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin was pressed on President Donald Trump’s resistance to releasing his tax returns. In response, Mnuchin stated that Trump had no intention of releasing them as he’s given plenty of financial information already.

During an interview that was broadcast this morning on CBS’s Face the Nation, Trump said that Mnuchin never asked him personally about his taxes. At the same time, the president relied on his long-standing answer when pushed on if/when he’ll release his returns — he’s under audit.

“I’m under audit,” the president exclaimed. “Right now, I’m under audit.” He proceeded to explain that it appears to be a “routine audit” but that his returns are very large. POTUS added that he thinks it is unfair that he’s been under audit for at least 12 years in a row, claiming that he thinks it is happening because he’s very famous.

Host John Dickerson brought up that Trump has been relying on this claim for at least 14 months and wanted to know when he thinks the audit will be over.

There is no proof of any audit at all.

And that would not prevent him releasing his return.

Its simply his MO at work here. Lie and lie again.

You're a friggin liar. Even if your tax lawyer advises you not to show the return currently under audit you can release all of the other past years that I'm very sure are done being audited by now.

As for why... it's almost certainly not because you're famous you narcissistic jerk. It's because your returns raised red flags with the amount of deductions, changes between years, etc. I'm no fan of the IRS but they're not going to waste time and precious manpower auditing people 'just because' they're famous.

See here's the thing, Trumpty Dumpty... you want a budget deal with cuts to crucial services for seniors, disabled, kids, single parents, working class poor, etc while giving more tax cuts to the richest who really don't 'need' the extra $$. We need to see YOUR returns to see exactly how and how much YOU and yours will benefit while screwing so many of the rest of us over.

... then the IRS suspects that Drumpf didn't pay sufficient taxes all those years. Sounds a lot like an indictment. Lock him up!

All Trump cares about is his popular standing. He is obsessed with tv ratings, vote totals, crowd sizes, etc

And his net worth is at the very core of that.

Its the most most important thing in the world to Donald Trump

He is lying about his net worth

He will never, ever, EVER, release his taxes

If somehow there was a court ruling calling for his taxes to be released.. Trump would resign as president to keep from doing it
