More than 150 neo-Nazis and white supremacists, many of them armed, staged a rally on Saturday in a Kentucky county that voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump.
The demonstrators were met by more than 100 self-described anti-fascist protesters, who chanted and jeered and waved a poster of a prominent far right activist getting punched in the face. There was, however, no violence.
Residents of the town of Pikeville, which has a population of about 7,000, said the demonstration perplexed and infuriated them. Both the neo-Nazis and the anti-fascists appeared to be largely from elsewhere.
Nathan Sesco, a military veteran, said he was angry that the protest might damage eastern Kentuckys reputation in the eyes of outsiders, making Pikeville look like a hate town.

"many of them armed" and that was okay? Amazing there was no violence.
The picture of the Kentucky Swat-Riot police with their bellies poofing out is... well... stereotypical American. You don't see photos in other countries of overweight Riot Cops! See link for 3rd photo down. Ha!

(21,155 posts)2. When we were in Italy last month all I saw were slender hot looking cops in protective gear
Guarding the monuments. Not one of them had a gut. I had my husband take a picture of me by two hunky cops.

(6,344 posts)3. Exactly.
Any pictures I have seen in the news with other countries riot cops are in-shape to do their job.
Did you see the picture in the article? Every one of the cops has a bulging belly. It was so telling.

(17,984 posts)4. So the inhabitants of Pikeville were disgusted with both sides
And they formed their own neighborhood militia in case either side misbehaved.
Three sides for a couple hundred people! Arrgggghhh!

(16,954 posts)5. Re: LAPD. They were pretty impressive in their riot gear
when I saw them at the Los Angeles Coliseum. They lined the walkway as people were entering. I didn't have the focus to check their bellies, as it was very intimidating to see the wall of them.
