Trump's weird hand gestures are the origin of the link to alt-white neo-nazi symbol. Kind of like Pepe the Frog, it started out as kind of a "joke" and just expanded into a symbol of tribal affiliation.

And tribal affiliation is all that these people have left: there are no morals, reason, or articulable philosophy left in any conservative organization or movement that I'm aware of.

The OK sign is 'white power' now.

Yah, nah, I think I'll not be letting them run roughshod over speech and reality by just claiming literally any symbol they want as theirs, making 4 memes, then waiting for the SPLC to scream EHRMAGAWD IT'S A WHITE SUPREMACIST!! Y'all can play that game if you'd like, though. Spoiler alert: It's a game you can't win.

So long as things have 'intrinsic meaning' that can be assigned, they will continue to do this. Learn to detach symbols from symbolism.

You took the bait. The bait was the symbol, just like it was for milk.

But it's okay, I already recognize I'm talking to a strategic messaging expert who has years more experience than I do, who knows the inside and out of the places where the planning for these trolling operations occur, and are well-versed in memetics. I realize I can contribute nothing of value to your erudite elucidation of the multi-layered evil of Trump's approach. Not when you're 'on to their trolling'. I'm just 'repeating Trump's lies', but we're not fooled! The OK sign was always REALLY a supersecret Nazi sign, and it was slyly distributed online by smoke signal!

Also notice the near lack of any POC's along with under representation of women. This supportive evidence

•His left hand curls to make the "P" formation.
•WP. White Power. White nationalists know exactly what that sign means.
•According to the Anti-Defamation League, this is a common white supremacist hand sign “particularly” used in California. (Stephen Miller is from Santa Monica.)

the white power sign on TV a few months back. I was going to ask if anyone else here noticed it because I didn't think I saw a thread about it. Hubby had to rewind the DVR and show it to me, but it was on a major network show. This is the guy who said the President's power will not be questioned. This is absolutely insane to see this kind of hateful stupidity thrown in our faces coming from that office, but 80,000 people believed Trump's con job, so here we are.

24. They can't.
Sun Apr 30, 2017, 07:10 PM

See, it's a cycle. The right takes a well-known symbol, drops a couple memes to associate it with them, waits on an organization to 'declare it a hate symbol' (and they will, because they've set precedent doing it for so long) at which point most thinking people look at it, look at the response, and mock us.

Remember that 'Mockery is the best weapon!'? Well, this is a potent form of internalized mockery. They make us look stupid to people so that they've discounted us BEFORE we ever start to have conversations (and that's effective as hell too, since most of our number seem to think 'EJUCATE YURSELF!' is a good 'conversation', or that one isn't needed at all).

And then you can seal the deal by noticing how many people in our party still think that we're not, in any way, out of touch with a huge chunk of America, because those are the people driving the idiotic reactions in the first place. It's rather beautiful, in a slimy sort of way, but was exactly how Gamergate was waged (and no surprise, since most of Gamergate were young people who were ostensibly liberal until they woke up one morning to find they'd all 'died' and realized that getting crucified for existing probably wasn't in their best interest; IOW, we literally drove our own culture warriors from the party and they were the ones who were best at messaging).

Of course, I warned about that almost 2 years ago now, but hey, what do I know? I'm just a kooky conspiracy theorist.

What IS important is that they identified as liberal, do not do so anymore, and a huge majority of them are now crafting the messages that buried us in the election. If you're incapable of seeing that those messages used in our favor would be a much better idea, I'm uncertain what to tell you.

But don't let that get in the way of you trying to snark on me because I dared to mention GamerGate without the proper obeisance and Tourette's-like litany of labels.
