General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt's happening again... MSNBC is drifting to the right the same way that CNN did.
After seeing many post referring to MSNBC's movement to the right, I have to admit that it is ever more apparent now. When Morning Joe was new and in it's first two years remained a middle of the road program, obviously those days are long gone.
We have seen liberal commentators flee and banned. Journalist canceled.
The Daily Rundown was largely middle of the road as well, however with the departure of Guthrie, the show is now nothing more than a mouth piece for Wall St.
Ratigan, while a bit too libertarian for me was at least tolerable, now we have SE Cupp? Really?
I should avoid getting started with Michael Steele....Ugh
Even the content has changed. For 3 days we have been watching the "Romney Olympics", the GOP love story of Mia Love (which being promoted by MSNBC will hurt her DEMOCRATIC opponent, considering what the Utah GOP did to the states redistricting).
Current is a long ways from competing with MSNBC, let's hope they are up to the task in the near future, they are in the Minor's at best....

(12,598 posts)The large majority of it has ALWAYS been right wing. They got a few liberal commentators at night - which is more than most stations have - and that gave everybody the idea that they were liberal.
Getting out our message has always been difficult. People want to live liberal - they just don't want to hear about it.

Three SOLID hours if 100% pure liberals. Plus repeats. Name ONE other station that does that. MSNBC is much more liberal than any other network.
We just like to complain.

They're conservative in the morning with Morning Joe.

Yes, Martin B., Rev. Sharpton, sometime Tweedy, Ed, Lawrence and the very impressive Rachael.
Hell, all of them are extremely impressive, and instead of always going on attacks (lies) like the RW broadcast they do what real journalist do, investigate.

(26,467 posts)because we're being outgunned by RWers on TV, it'd be nice if we got back tothe point of the news; no slant either way. but as long as we're bombarded with right wing shit on TV, we need all the rachels and eds we can get.

(252 posts)The owners of MSNBC and their advertisers do not want to be associated with and disturbed by liberal content on their station. It is upsetting to their appetites and it weakens their social circle.

(17,505 posts)No.
The right wing media screaming and whining about a few shows that are not GOP propaganda told people it was the opposite of Fox News, and people fell for that BS hook line and sinker.

(12,272 posts)SE Crupp is a calculation error, as unlikable as Romney and by misplacing Martin Bashir, she is sand in the machine. The RW might as well bite the heads off of kittens, which is good for us actually, and no kittens had to suffer.

I'm in Cali and Bill Press comes on at 3:00 a.m., Stephenie at 6:00 a.m., than I wait until 1:00 p.m. for Martin, wait against until 3:00 p.m. for the Rev., 4:00 - Turks, switch back and forth from 5:00 p.m. thereon.
I would love for one station tho for the progressives, but hey, no complaints here!

(21,925 posts)Thom Hartmann's programs are broadcast by them as well Amy Goodman's Democracy Now, along with lots of other liberal-oriented shows and appearances by people like Noam Chomsky and Laura Flanders. It's at 348 if you have Direct TV, channel 9415 if you have Dish Network. Listener-supported and commercial free, they're better than Current in my opinion. In fact, there's no one on the air anywhere better than Amy Goodman and Thom Hartmann, with the exception of Rachel Maddow.

(71,611 posts)One must wonder what fetishist executive at MSNBC had his psyche permanently twisted by college porn ... the same porn archetype as that presented by the former mayor of Wasilla: librarian seductress. She's vacuous and simple-minded, having apparently invested more in time before a mirror than behind a book. All my alarm bells go off: "daddy issues." Her mannerisms are, more than anything else those of an over-indulged 6-year-old, prancing for daddy in a costume reminiscent of Jon Benet. Creepy as hell.

(6,994 posts)millions upon millions, then they will read any script or story the right wing PACs puts before them...I remeber when morning Joe said "let s just concede this election now and start building for 2016 cause Romeny has no chance"...now that was back before Romney reach the point of probable..Things sure change..And is this former congressman Harold Ford a right wing mouth piece now or what?.....
I agree though. MSNBC feeds the liberals just enough crumbs to keep them watching but how have Rachel and Ed lasted so long?..I suppose when biig money says get rid of them..then Comcast EXs will listen...

No one forces any of us to tune in-Just leave. Don't think for a minute they won't notice and if our departure(s) sustain-they'll take action and if they don't then it is true, they are just another major player in the propaganda that we don't want to hear-win/win.

(4 posts)I am a scholar and a political scientist. I've discovered that fascists don't believe in "free speech!
What I want to say before I leave is that death panels are real. I am referring to the Republican political machinery that will block attempts to implement Obama's healthcare law in some states - many of them southern. This will adversely impact the poor and elderly of those states in the worst way. The lack of action will effectively create Republican-controlled death panels.
I'm outta here for bluer pastures where free speech isn't stifled by a few morons.

DU has grown too big not to have some sensible posting rules, but it is also too big to control posting behavior the way it did when it was a smaller community. Those small community days are gone forever.
DU's posting rules are a little tighter than is probably good for the community today.
I'm glad to see his post wasn't hidden.

(2,577 posts)So the parent company can say, "Hey, look we're PROGRESSIVE!!!" while promoting right-wing propaganda a good share of the time. I get scared when wide-eyed progressives begin spouting right-wing talking points as real because "it was on MSNBC!" or they "heard it on NPR!!!"
Any news source closely connected to major corporate money is suspect. I hope Current gets a stronger toehold. They are unabashedly progressive, but struggling to get exposure on cable systems.

(113,083 posts)After Katrina and the first wave of bad economic news, then the growing certainty that BushInc lied us into war, the NBCs tried to dampen their obvious cheerleading for Bush and post 2006 brought in some lefties for their evening programming - kept the rest of the day pretty solid center-right, though. The TeaParty BS wouldn't have been so widespread without CNBC and NBC pushing it daily.

(15,438 posts)Sure, they're pretty conservative in the morning (Morning Joe, Chris Jansing, Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd), but I don't see The Cycle (Tore, Krystal Ball, Stephen Kornacki, S.E. Cupp) as right or left. They're basically the balanced center to me.
Martin Bashir, Hardball, Al Sharpton's Politics Nation, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell are all in primetime, and they do excellent journalistic work, rather than liberal news. If I wanted liberal news, I'd tune in to CurrentTV which is a bit too liberal for my taste since I consider myself a Progressive rather than a Liberal.

I'm glad when DU'er's complain; but I'd be gladder if more of them tried to figure out something worthwhile to do about it. (And b.t.w., I don't think writing letters to employees of said corps. will have any significant effect.)
(Does anyone besides me remember Maurice Hinchey's bill? Sorry if I'm cranky; but I consider this a really important issue, and I've had the experience of trying to drum up support for things like it here, and barely elicited a rec, let alone action.)

(12,287 posts)You may notice that Cupp is the only conservative on the show. It's 3 against 1 for goodness sake. Then there is Ed and Lawrence and Tamron and goddess Rachael.
And notice the other NBC stations...they are leaning left, look at USA and SyFy. All the NBC - GE stations seem to lean left. Yes, there are more conservatives on MSNBC since Comcast, but they are still out numbered and aren't the crazies. Cupp comes close, but she's been pretty muted and Kristal Bell, doesn't hold back to correct her or tell her when her sources are shit (like Daily Caller).
