The RW dickheads believe "survival of the fittest" means the "strongest"

They are totally wrong about this.

It underpins all their moronic ideology.

Bruce Lee was pretty strong but was not necessarily the "fittest" in Darwins' sense of the word.

Fascists think strength is all.

Ryan is one of those. Hopefully he will expire while running of of his record breaking marathons.

Darwin referenced survival of the most adaptable.

In that sense, our GOP friends are in for a rude awakening - hopefully sooner vs. later.

He didn't originate the phrase; he borrowed it from philosopher Herbert Spencer. In On the Origin of Species Darwin made it clear that "fittest" meant species who could best adapt (and therefore reproduce). "Survival" didn't refer to any individual's survival, but that of species.

Of course, this is science, so the Republicans don't believe that.

During the eugenics movement the definition of "fit" that emerged was the "nordic superior race" was considered to be the most fit in the US. Nondisabled and white is still a goal. Eugenics is alive and well.
