Senate seats up for re-election:
25 - Democratic
8 - Republican
House:
All 435 up for re-election but Republicans have a 23 seat majority
So to gain control of the government again we need to hold all 25 Democratic Senate seats and turn 3 of 8 Republicans. A number of the Democratic seats are in states that supported Trump.
In the House we need to hold on to 194 seats and flip 24 seats.

That's why the Republicans double down on protecting Trump's treason. There very little chance for Democrats to gain power in 2018 so their best strategy is not to rock the boat.
If they allowed Trump's collusion with Putin to blacken the eye of the Republican party it would diminish their chances in 2018.
It will take an unprecedentedly huge portion of voting public to turn in order to regain control.
Something went very, very, very wrong with our country.

(16,396 posts)There are 24-25 GOP house seats in districts where Clinton won. Only in the minds of the biggest party hacks is the GOP in good shape with respect to the House in 2018. You should probably read the Cook report of follow Larry Sabato on Twitter. They'll tell you all about it.

(5,557 posts)If I were the betting type I would go with flipping the house with 10+ seats to spare.
Senate is rough, I see a 2 seat gain most likely, 3 at most. Outside of NV and AZ, all the R seats are in very red States.

(100,080 posts)That's the biggest problem plaguing our country right now. If we can get that out of politics, that is what it takes. If it takes a war to do that, that is a war I am prepared to fight.

(5,693 posts)We should watch out for voter suppression, funny business at the polls, etc etc. Barring all that, we should win both Senate and House majorities.

in a Quinnipiac University poll, exceeding a 5 percentage point margin for Republicans in 2013.
That's more than a wave if it holds and we don't screw it up.

(1,570 posts)Also possible is a ban on all early voting, "modernizing" (paperless) voting requirements and deployment of "authorized poll watchers." And of course don't forget the old standbys of voter purges and polling location "problems" in Dem districts.
