On Wednesday, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) took to the Senate floor to discuss Tuesdays firing of FBI Director James Comey and the facts as we currently know them pertaining to the investigation of President Donald Trump and his associates connections to the Russian government.
We know that the Russians mounted a complex operation to interfere with the 2016 U.S. election. We also know, Franken said, that they did this with the intent of helping former reality TV game show host Trump, hindering Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and undermining public confidence in the election system.
These facts have been confirmed by our intelligence agencies, Franken said. What we dont yet fully understand is all the reasons why the Russians favored Donald Trump and whether members of his campaign assisted in the Russian operation to sway the election in his favor.
These questions are the subject of an active and ongoing investigation.
The timing of Mr. Comeys dismissal raises questions, Franken said, and Mr. Trumps decision to abruptly fire the man leading an investigation that could implicate the Trump administration should shock the conscience of every American who believes that no man or woman is above the law.

(42,862 posts)... a man who CARES about his duty to his country, the institution he serves, the office he holds, his state and the people who elected him. He's one of the good guys! You'll NEVER need to worry or wonder if anything he does has some ulterior motive, or whether he's doing something (or saying something) for personal gain or personal advantage.
I'm so glad that he's speaking out on this and bringing up these issues and questions in his charming, friendly, homespun and disarming way. He's never at a loss for words, but the words he chooses and the tone he uses is never a distraction from his message. I get so frustrated whenever I see politicians who rely on "grandstanding" to try and make their point. Same thing goes for politicians who lose the plot along the way and fall into the same old rote script. Franken, in contrast to those other politicians, always manages to keep the focus on the issue. He's on point, on target and with laser sharpness and precision.
I'm extremely grateful that he's on OUR SIDE!!!

(1,349 posts)Why anyone would call this party "feeble" is beyond me. The sheer number of proud Democrats who are standing up and doing their jobs so well on the floor is balm to my soul right now.
I'm not sure why he doesn't have his own cult following .... wait never mind, we're Dems, and progressives, we don't do the cult of personality thing, we just cheer on intelligent evisceration of the corrupt party!
Where are all the people with the pom poms? Why aren't they bouncing with glee here at how amazing our Democratic senators and their allies truly are in this fight we're all in together?
