OBAMA SAID TURN OFF FOX NEWS???

PARMA, Ohio — At an unscheduled stop at Ziggy’s Pub and Restaurant, an Amherst, Ohio bar, President Barack Obama suggested that the channel be changed when he was made aware that televisions were showing Fox News.

Obama and Fox News have gone to war frequently during his three and a half years in office — most recently over a sharply negative teaser shown on Fox and Friends that the White House took as a Fox News-sponsored attack ad on the president.

The Obama Administration frequently used the network as a proxy punching bag for its Republican opponents in the early years of his presidency. Fox's personalities, led by Glenn Beck, fired back with more and more incendiary comments, but a somewhat delicate balanced was reached after the 2010 election in which both sides toned down their rhetoric.

This is a very good strategic move...with Citizen's United taking up so much air time..Tomorrow all the Media is going to be talking about is this....Obama's dissing Fox....Free advertisement...PLUS..oh yes there is more...This would make people watch fox news, because of this statement, to see what the hell Obama was talking about..and they too, will see, how batshit crazy these people are over there....Excellent.

this is going to be interesting....we will see one of two things.

1.) they will remain batshit crazy, doing what they normally do.

2.) they will clean up their act. Something Dubbya said, You can't fool all the people, all the time...Or you can only fool some of the people...or whatever.

Which one do you think?

If they clean up their act, suddenly becoming fair and balanced, the freakazoids will go nuts. They need their 24/7 hatefest. They defend fox news, like the early Christians defending the four gospels. They will revolt.

But if they change nothing, just the crazy hate fest...America will see it for what it is...Propaganda.

CU means the airwaves will be filled with non-stop lies about the President and amplified by faux noise and hate radio. But that is a small but very insular parallel universe. What gets said inside that bubble echoes far and wide...into everyone's crazy uncle and then onto the corporate media. The game here is to create an alternative where a different narrative can be stated and the lies refuted. Yes, I think its a brilliant move that will get a lot of awareness and one the Obama campaign needs to do to be able to rally and organize and try to conteract the Kochs, Roves and others throwing all their money around.

Cheers...

43. And lots of Americans -- supporters of Obama -- are going to have the courage
Fri Jul 6, 2012, 12:42 PM

to ask stores to turn off Fox News.

It's win, win.

I think it is great to have this controversy. It will give millions of Americans pause and cause them to ask why Obama would suggest that a patron unhappy with Fox News should request that it be turned off.

Many, many, many Americans actually believe that Fox tells both sides of the story. They haven't studied literature or journalism (and never will) and don't understand how Fox twists things. Through its choice of language, of interviewees, of topics, Fox News manipulates and selects its language and news stories to favor Republicans. So do other news media, so we should seek balance.

If you want good, deep news coverage, listen to Pacifica Radio.

And if you live somewhere without a Pacifica station, listen on the web.

Ian Masters and some of the other newscasts give a really good look at issues. Democracy Now can't be beat.

And then you turn to traditional TV and radio to get "the other side" so that you have balance.

The problem with Fox News isn't that it has a point of view. It is that people watch Fox News day in and day out. Nothing but Fox News and entertainment shows -- makes Jack a dull boy. And that is what too many Americans are -- dull.

If you watch Democracy Now and then Fox, you can see the difference. On Democracy Now, the people being interviewed are given time to finish their sentences -- to convey thoughts. On Fox, it's newstainment. Only the interviewer gets to complete a thought. The person being interviewed only gets to talk as long as the interviewer agrees with what he or she is saying.

So you have "both sides" showing their faces on Fox, but you really only fully hear what one of the faces is thinking. Very clever -- Fox. But not very trustworthy when it comes to news.

But then all you DUers know all this. I'm just writing to support Obama and for the lurkers and trolls.

with the remote. They couldn't figure out who put the parent lock on FOX "News"!

It took them awhile to get it off. I'm not sure if they went through tech support for the manufacturer or called up the place where we bought it and got their tech to do it. We bought if from the sole independent electronics dealer in town that actually still employs a guy like that. I sure wasn't going to own up to it and give them the password.

had to have done it. There were idiots in there that always insisted FOX "News" be on. They couldn't stand to watch anything else.

I was a trustee and we had a rule that sports had priority. We had bought the big screen to try and promote our being the place to watch the game. We also had several small tv's around the lounge. The bartenders were instructed to always allow anyone wanting to watch sports to have the remote. Every time I went in there I found some game to watch, even if I wasn't the least bit interested.

News Corporation owns a multitude of news outlets in the United States, including the New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, and the Fox News Channel. Several media critics have called for investigations into whether they too engaged in phone hacking activities. In addition to any possible illegal activities in the U.S., News Corporation and/or its executives might also face civil and criminal liability under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.[229]
