Holy Effing Sheeite: Christie Does It AGAIN:

Christie’s temper flares on Seaside Heights boardwalk
By Sam Wood

INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

A video posted on TMZ.com shows Christie gripping a vanilla ice cream cone as strides down the Seaside Heights boardwalk while launching into a boardwalk battle of words.

"You're a real big shot, you're a real big shot shootin' your mouth off," Christie yells at the man.

"Just take care of the teachers," the man responded, according to TMZ. He may as well have kicked sand in the governor's face.

Christie turns up the heat. The shaking cellphone footage shows the Republican aggressively strutting towards the man, barking "Keep walking away ... keep walking."

I think. Most politicians should avoid eating in public, even if they are thin (remember Michele Bachman and the footlong hot dog in her mouth?). There was no political reason for Christie to be eating an ice cream cone, when it could just get very messy as it would with anybody...a small cup of sorbet would be better (with a tiny wood spoon)...

A few years ago, he used the state helicopter to take him to his son's soccer game. Which is sort of understandable (family values, pressures of public office, etc. - I wouldn't get upset if our President did that to be at one of HIS kid's games).

But then, he had a car there which DROVE him the 100 or so yards from the helicoper landing site to the soccer field.

I'm sorry, but for that instance, I piled on the "get off your fat fucking ass" shaming. I plenty of big and fat friends and relatives, and NONE of them would need to rely on a car driven by a public servant to ferry them 100 yards. If his wife had picked him up, maybe.

But a state limo? Because he's too fat to walk? No no no no no.

Having said that, I do shudder at the fat shaming here.

65. Or a spoiled brat can get Mommy and Daddy to punish teacher
Sat Jul 7, 2012, 10:44 AM
Jul 2012

There was an article in Philadelphia Magazine a while ago (http://www.phillymag.com/articles/class-warfare/) about a teacher at a private school on the Main Line.

It detailed the firing of a teacher of long standing because some little brat cried to her parents that the teacher was "being mean" to her. The parents, who had donated a ton of money to the school, wanted her head. They thought the teacher was "out to get" their little darling. And the teacher got fired.

That's another good reason for tenure.

lindysalsagal

69. School boards are political (elected every 2 years) and we handle people's little darlings,
Sat Jul 7, 2012, 12:45 PM
Jul 2012

and that's why teachers need tenure. Parents cannot be rational, especially because parents are hearing from teachers what they heard from teachers when they themselves were students in school.

In other words:

Special ed kids often come from special ed parents, and behavior problems come from badly behaving parents. So when we give them the truth about their kids, the bad news is something that is a total raw nerve, and they start wanting to kill the messenger.

The tenure question comes down to this; Who do you want running the schools?

If it's responsible, trained teachers, keep tenure. If you're ok with the kids running the schools, repeal tenure.

It's not about the money. Losing tenure GUARANTEES that teachers will give up and give everyone a's and b's. They won't be ABLE to try and really teach, for fear of being fired.

Losing tenure takes away any hope you have that your teacher is actually preparing your child for the future. Without tenure, why would someone spend 6 years and $300K to get a job, knowing that they'll only be kept around a few years? Teachers don't even know they'll get to pay off their student loans.

So, look for huge teacher shortages in the non-tenure states. This is a temporary blip. It will prove itself in a few short years, after some really ugly lawsuits due to school violence. Tenure will come back. Public schools, where we can't expel anyone, can't teach without it.
