(3,040 posts)But we need to change our strategy or we will continue to lose. I am worried for 2018. We need a hard reboot or we will be wiped out. The current Democratic 'we are not as bad as Republicans' simply is not going to be enough to win over red states.

advised me to stop watching news with tRump. I asked how that can be done, he is EVERYWHERE. So, my blood pressure meds were increased. I LOATHE this uncouth, ignorant, repulsive piss-poor excuse for a "man". We need to DEMAND a test for Alzheimers, or Dementia. If not either of those, then just WHAT the HELL is wrong with him? The gop needs a damn good shakeup, too. They seem to think this is some kind of a joke, having a cartoon character as president. He is 100% their representative.

(4,544 posts)I didn't expect the Democrat to win in Montana, though, so that isn't fueling my insomnia. Two-thirds of the vote was already cast via various early-vote methods, so there just wasn't time for the assault of the reporter to make a difference, and for that reason, I don't think it's any kind of bellweather. Don't let this get you down!

(17,006 posts)No, we didn't win but we did much, much better than expected. I think we did well enough to make the repubs nervous. This was a no way a dem was going to win election and he lost by 10. What does that say about those upcoming elections that are close? Not to mention boxing boy has lost a lot of good will with other congress peeps.

(13,776 posts)Though it's been done in the past, the state GOP demanded Absentee and in person voting only (though it's much more expensive) because if they made it easier then more Democrats would vote and they would lose.
And, it was always a long shot.
Too bad that Gianforte's behavior didn't happen a week or two ago. Then it might've made more of a difference.

(109 posts)who wins any election as long as the vote is counted by easily rigged machines that count the vote in total secrecy and either can't be verified or are never verified.
And of course you can add the suppression of votes which makes it even unnecessary in some cases to rig the machines.
The average red tilt of elections nationally is about 3%; that is, the final result varies from the exit polls by about 3% in a Republican direction. In states where there is great deal of suppression, voter ID, etc. etc., it's greater than that. In KS it's about 7% according to Jonathan Simon in CODE RED. All the states that HRC lost in the midwest would probably have lost regardless of the suppression because of the voting machines. I believe that PA started counting votes using completely unverifiable touch screens. So PA now has a basically "faith-based" voting system just like GA in 2002. 80% of voters vote on machines with no paper trail.

As to what can be done. The answer is NOTHING. If people talked about it, particularly the DNC or Dem politicos, even Bernie, it might be possible at some point after people begin to realize that there's something important about actually verifying elections, but for now, there's not a damned thing that can be done. Find something else to get interested in rather than politics. That's pretty well sewed up except in certain states.

(4,166 posts)The Republicans of Montana will not wake up until their water rights are taken away; when what water they do have sickens their livestock and crops; when they are hurt or sick and the nearest doctor is a hundred miles away; when their school closes because their is no money to hire good teachers or to repair the building; when their crops are destroyed by hail or flood and the Federal Crop insurance is gone.; when they can't go hunting or fishing because the access is blocked.

(13,340 posts)The majority of vote was already in when he choked the guy. Never-the-less, the margin of victory was cut significantly from November. Don't get disheartened.
Hopefully Ossoff can pull it off in Georgia. IF we can't win there, we have to consider what approach to take in 2018 very carefully.
